Kansas Atheists

WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH KANSAS? NOTHING THAT A FEW WELL ORGANIZED AND CONNECTED ATHEISTS CAN'T FIX. FROM ENDING THE PRACTICE OF CHURCHES BEING POLLING PLACES, TO KEEPING IDIOTS FROM POLLUTING OUR SCIENCE STANDARDS..

I guess I'll add my "welcome" too even though I think i have made only one post since I joined months ago.  I do a lot of lurking and have decided to join in.  I'm in Manhattan, but soon to be all over as we live in our RV and will be leaving here March 25th.  BUT, we still consider ourselves Kansans.  We will be back from time to time as all our kids live here.

I've not felt alone here, as I do have a few friends that think the way I do, but i am a member of some other online communities where I have not come out yet.  I did let it be known of facebook what I believe and post things anti religious from time to time....mostly because I get sick of all the bible quotes and god bless you's.

Anyway, I rambled long enough.  It's nice to know that not ALL of Kansas is crazy.

Hey Dr. Cruise,

My husband grew up just south of you (Plainville).  We are in eastern Kansas now (Wamego).  I feel very alone myself in my views regarding religion, but I can only imagine what it would be like in the hinterland.  Glad you are here.

Thanks for the welcome Dianna. I have also joined the
freedom from religion foundation. I feel it's important to preserve the separation of church and state. I live in an extremely religious community, so lines get blurred from time to time.
Sounds like you have the same idea I did about facebook. When I came out as an agnostic (I am an atheist now) it drew a considerable amount of attention and concern from family and friends! I actually decided to post some of the more "interesting" bible verses word for word from the RSV. Even though it was the supposed "word of god" it started making people extremely angry and I ended up getting into some interesting debates! I must say though, it was fun!

Welcome Dr. Cruise! I am sorry you feel alone. I hope that being here will help. I doubt you are the only one with your views. We need a voice in our communities, in this country. There are groups that are being active in doing just that. It irks me to listen to those with no background in science, compare their beliefs to science. I plan on posting some info on facebook about the spring equinox and toss in a little bit of ancient pagan beliefs. I don't want to change anyone, I just don't think it hurts to poke them with a stick now and then. :)

Hi everyone, Just wanted to be part of a group close to home.  I deconverted from Christianity about 6 years ago after doing extensive research on evolution, abiogenesis, and religious history.  I feel we need to take a stand against creationists who would have our kids brainwashed in our public schools. It is such a shame that there is all that great scientific information out there and our children are pushed into considering intelligent design, as if it were a true scientific theory. I feel so alone where I live because of my views.

Signing Atheists

I was going to set up a group for Deaf Atheists, but figured I'd probably be alone in here if I did that so I figured I'd open it to anyone who knows sign language or even interested in learning it.
