I’m unclear why I was invited to this group as I don’t believe I’ve mentioned I have ADHD, Inattentive Type but whoever invited me, thank you.

It’s been the bane of my life. I’ve lost jobs, gotten into more trouble than I care to describe, have lost more phone numbers, addresses, important dates, appts, opportunities and friends than I can keep track of. I spend time every day looking for things I just had in my hand, put in a special place, etc.

It wasn’t til several years ago my boss (I’m a psychotherapist in an HMO and my boss treats ADHD) offered me a computerized test. Well, I impressed him. Now he knows why I can’t remember half the stuff he says! It was freeing (kinda like declaring I was an atheist!) and vindicating.

Happy to join you guys!

It’s clear I have the gift/problem but have never been diagnosed. I have the ADD, and my brother had the ADHD. As strange (or not) as it may seem, he now “just” has ADD because of his long time use of pot. After digressing -which should probably the middle name of most in this group- I say after all these years that ADD can be a gift. For one thing, it’s not an attention deficit, but an attention plethora. It’s a gift when you realize the many ways it can screw you and when you make it work for you. I understand now that I give attention to things that most people would not see and I do it all at once.

My brother and I drove the preachers in church wild with it. We spent many evening services in church playing penny hockey on the pew. He would lay down at one end, and I the other with our fingers like goals. Then we would flick the penny down the pew to score. I honestly cannot figure how the other churchgoers put up with it. Sometimes we would get bored as children, and when the prayers would start, we would lie under the pew and act like we were speaking in tongues. The whole church would then get started. One time though, my brother started the tongues, and some numbnut actually translated it like it came from god.
