Welcome to It Gets Better

Bullying and teen suicide are nothing new, but in recent years we have become increasingly aware of the damage bullying does ― to both children and adults alike ― with what seems to be a sudden spike in teen suicides related to being bulled.

The death of a child, particularly at his or her own hands, is never acceptable. It is a blight on human society that schools do not do more to prevent this, that parents can raise their children to be mean and spiteful to others, and that bullied kids don't have a support system on which they can rely when they are faced with feelings of despair and isolation.

The content of this group will undoubtedly be difficult to deal with. It is painful to see children ostracized from their peers, and made to feel as if they don't matter or don't belong. Of course, bullying is not confined to schools, either. Many adults experience bullying at home or in the workplace as well. All these issues will be explored in this group.

Loren, that's how I try to respond, and am usually successful.  Don't give them the negative attention they want.

Okay, I'll grant you that the following doesn't work in all cases ... but give a look anyway:

That is why I am here in this group Daniel - it is to help others with what I had to go through. I love to help other people and I am just doing a small part to help others. I am glad you are here Daniel and wish you the best in your job.

Daniel, I like how you think globally. It isn't just about you, you think of others who experience discomfort with a person such as you describe. That makes your heavy load even heavier.

Yes, perhaps it is time to focus on building anti-bullying skills and leave the bullies to their own inevitable fates.

Thinking of you and Ning and that splendid dinner you have planned.

It's been interesting.  I to help others when I can.  One of the perpetrators - one of the main ones - for harrassing me out of my job 3 years ago is wanting to transfer to where I work now.  We'll see what happens.  I'm working on an exit strategy, in advance.

The article about childhood bullying - I guess it can set up a person for lifelong susceptibility, even if we think we are beyond it.

I'm thinking what is important is to think of how to feel whole.  How to create a reasonably safe setting.  How to not fall back into patterns of vulnerability....

And of course, how to create a better world for others, those who are here now and those who are just starting out, and those to come.

How is everyone? Just making sure this important group stays current. I will post some discussions soon. I am researching some topics now.
