Abby, when you found this out did it surprise you? Were you shocked? I am glad you put this info on here, but it doesn't shock me, also if they gave up a number of 2.4mill, I would have to say that the accual number is much higher. Not that that matters, just saying...

I read the nytimes artical... they would like us to believe that this is some sort of long awaited study... as if it's the first of its kind, bla, bla...

Have you ever read the book by Mark Twain called Christian Science? Here you can acually read it;
http://www.online-literature.com/twain/christian-science/
the book was writen in the early 20th century, he explains the mind set of the religion and its founder Mary Baker Eddy (Glover).

It is a very interesting read to say the least. My cousin has a complete works of Twain set, handed down to her by her grandmother. I've read it. I suggest, if you find yourself with the time, that you read it as well.

I believe that this study wil be ongoing and has been going on since the inception of prayer, because, as long as people are talking about religion they are believing. Today I cought the tale end of the Florida / Florida State football game, and I can't remember the QB's name but the announcers went on to say that this guys dad is an evangelist missionary, they were saying this because the QB, on his dark-lines under his eyes he apparently writes in the lines a bible verse and chapter, today it was Hebrew 12,12 (?). The mentality of those like he and his father, evangelist missionaries, truely make me sick to my stomach...

They pay top dollar to get the word out and to make sure, at all costs that the word stays! Scary stuff...

Please excuse my misspellings and long windedness.

Kimberly, I just heard on the news this morning (NBC) about the bus campain. They said that the signs have been put up all around the country and that this was the first time(place) they have been taken down!

I have been having these ideas, have been thinking that Iowa is the premier religious state in the union, and how I think that everyone underestimates the purpose and influence of the state of Iowa. To me this act of having the atheist right of expression taken away, so bluntly further tips the scales of injustice.

Kimberly, there is something called "civil" disobedience, don't ever feel that you should have to bite your tongue, or hold it or do anything with it except let it roll in a civil, factual, non-confrontational way! I mean really, christianity, and every other religion have the freedom to express thier theology to the world in whatever media they so chose! They have thier own states and countries, however when we atheists decide to get out of our circle jerks and express our views to the world out side of our, very small nexus, we are shut-up.

I have been ashamed of Iowa for some time, atleast my area (Waterloo), for that matter, my shame goes nation wide. What an imbarassment... I guess everything is how it should be, no?

A little factoid for us, did you know that Iowa has around six hundred masonic lodges? We only have 99 counties... Did you know that you have to believe in a higher power to be a mason? If you have ever done any research on Masons you would find that they are VERY influential...

I don't mean to... I mean I love this planet, I am just embarassed that we have messed it up the way we have, not just the water and the atmosphere but the people aswell, I hate that there are so many philosophies that people take seriously...

Anyway, I could go on and on, and have probably said too much already. Just wanted to comment on the campaign, and mention a few other things.

Take care Kimberly and everyone else

Hello from the Iowa west coast, up here in Sioux City. I think that, unfortunately, that I know all of the Sioux City atheists, if there are more of use around, it'd be well appreciated if I could find some.

Oh!! FYI!! I'm not complaining, !below!, as a matter of fact, I would love to see more Atheist women, however I do ask why? alot!
Brad Comment by Brad on July 14, 2009 at 12:53pm
Hmm...odd?? There are seven women and eleven men reporting thier atheism in Iowa. Yes I can count! ...sometimes... ;~) It just seems like an over average count of women... I wonder why that is... I realize that the tally is growing and the percentages may change... Though prematurely I can't help but ponder the question WHY?
