Btw, that avatar of mine is the famous "crocoduck" of the Richard Dawkins fame. I wish all of us could get to meet my Messiah Dr Dawkins someday. That would be one nice pilgrimage :)

Hi, this is Sanil from Chennai but now in Tampere, Finland. Its nice to know my bros/sis here though this forum. In India its so hard to find some/any true humanists/rationalists. Everyone is expected to believe in some rock or the other. A welcome change here...

As a reminder, colonial era European art depicted 'natives' as savages with no moral values. Indian art has frequently depicted 'lower castes' in similar ways. The argument here could be that this is just metaphor, but metaphor for what? If anything, it is a metaphor for oppression. We all know that the dalits are darker in general than the brahmins. Its more likely that such ideas have been part of the dominant cultural representation of Indian culture for centuries, a representation that is symbolic of much injustice.

I'm more concerned with the representation of evil in the image- a dark skinned devil woman with a rabid sexual lust.

In what way Ajita? Isn't Rama always depicted as "blue" inferring black?

Anyone else find something terribly offensive about this image?

I can't help feeling that his sort of thing is a cheerful reminder of the religious justification for the caste system and skin-color/gender prejudice in India. And here I am thinking that the worst thing about the Ramayana is the misogynistic treatment of Sita. Or am I reading too much into the picture?

I have started a yahoo group unite all Indian and also to count the number of Indian who do not believe that any Super Natural power exists.

I strongly believe that their is nobody who control our life. There is nothing called destiny. There is no God or Ghost exists. Similarly there is no Sin or Holy work. It can be called only as Good or Bad on the basis of human values. and Finally, there is no hell or heaven.

Human beings are just one of the type of many living beings with more IQ.

I wish one day all religion should vanish to understand that only Humanity should be our religion. We understand it is not possible in next 500 years but let us join hands to make Indian mass understand our numbers and so our opinion.

Atheist in India is considered as Evil. We need to educate people that not believing god is just a realization of a fact. It doesn't mean that we hate god. How can we hate a thing which we believe does not exist.

Need just your support by joining the group.
