WELCOME TO HUMANE ATHEISTS

HUMANE ATHEISTS is for anyone interested in issues surrounding animal welfare and animal rights. You don't have to be a pet lover, a vegetarian, or an activist to join. You just have to like exploring new ideas and sharing information about the relationships between animals and people, and how we should or should not treat them.

I welcome posts on personal experiences, news and inspirational stories, action alerts, ethical questions, humane living options such as products and websites, and related topics.

I look forward to your contributions, and I hope that we can make HUMANE ATHEISTS one of the most active and vital groups on Atheist Nexus.

ew big needle, is the microship thing like a tracking device?
Comment by Dallas the Phallus on March 5, 2009 at 8:46am
No, it is not mean at all. The needle is big, but it does not seem to hurt them too much. I've seen it done numerous times.

Why is that? All my pets are chipped. It is a great idea.

Syndi, I just watched that a few weeks ago myself. It was a really good doc, and sad and tragic as well. It is such a shame what we are doing to these wonderful animals, just to make a plain, untasting, unnutritious soup. That guy who made it (his name escapes me), is so wonderful. He's the kind of decent man I really look up to (and he's super cute as well). Everyone should watch this.

I was involved in animal rescue for nearly a decade. The number of dogs and cats that end up at a city shelter that don't have tags on is ridiculous. There is no excuse for it. In Dallas last year they euthanized over 28,000 animals, many of which could have been reunited with their home IF THEY HAD BEEN WEARING A COLLAR AND TAG.

In addition to a tag, you should also have your pets microchipped. I recommend Home Again.

that sounds alot worse i wouldnt want my baby put to sleep

Skye, but what if he gets out and ends up at the city pound. They can't call you and after three days he'll be put to sleep. Which is worse. Dogs never like it at first, but he'll get used to it. It is not mean.
