HUMANE ATHEISTS is for anyone interested in issues surrounding animal welfare and animal rights. You don't have to be a pet lover, a vegetarian, or an activist to join. You just have to like exploring new ideas and sharing information about the relationships between animals and people, and how we should or should not treat them.

I welcome posts on personal experiences, news and inspirational stories, action alerts, ethical questions, humane living options such as products and websites, and related topics.

I look forward to your contributions, and I hope that we can make HUMANE ATHEISTS one of the most active and vital groups on Atheist Nexus.

That doggie looks young except for the mouth.  Funny.  I'm saving it.

I don't know much about dogs, so I don't know if that dog is in pain or not, but I was a little worried when I saw that GIF.  It didn't seem quite right to me.

I did find one post that said "All dogs love chasing their tails. When he does so too often, it is not just play - it is time to take him to the vets. His frustration because of the pain or headaches makes him turn around in circles. It is lack of focus and another sign of a neurological disorder."

Ssomebody posted this GIF on the "Hang With Friends" A/N group, and peoplle thought it was funny.  I have no idea where it originally came from, but this stupid kid is tormenting the dog....and it's not one bit funny.  How do I track down the source of the GIF, and turn the kid in to the SPCA, or some other humane society?

The kid ought to be taken out and shot.

Hi!  I'm new here...just wanted to let animal fans in the Greater Los Angeles area know that there's a FREE newspaper available in vet offices, coffee shops, The Red Barn, and myriad other places.  It publicizes people who are serious about spaying and neutering, rescuing shelter animals,  caring for feral cat colonies, anti-displays of wild animals in circuses and zoos, pet health and training, and promotes special events that feature adoptions of dogs, cats, bunnies (even reptiles).

It's a magazines-sized B&W called THE PET PRESS. when you see a copy, pick it up, take it home, and share it with your friends.  It's not atheist, or any other's just about trying to make Los Angeles County a No-Kill place.

I write the Events Calendar, and if you see anything in that listing that interests you, PLEASE ATTEND.  You never know what you'll learn or who you'll meet....maybe a new Forever Friend.

It was a nice story, but I think fewer pets woulod be getting these diseases (I'm not saying in this case)if they ate real food, instead of grains (which are waste products of cereal comp and they did not evolve to eat) and garbage off of the slaughter house floor.  There is nothing regulating what is in pet food, as far as quality, and it is killing our pets.  China did it in a quick way, but usually it happens over time.  A highly heated nugget of garbage is not a good diet and kills over time.  Yes, I have had animals in the past live to old ages on kibble, but that is what i call the George Burns effect.  He lived to 100 smoking cigars, but no one with any sense would recommendsmoking for a long healthy life.
