This is what I use as my email signature, I think Gregory House is a full embodiement of this spirit, at the very opposite end of the spectrum of religions, which adulate virtue, but fail to live up to it. Failure to be virtuous is such a huge burden that people end up living as hypocrites, whereas those who embrace their dark side, as House does so well, in the ends will always shine through.

About the will/would I remember that it sounded like a will but I know that "would" would (will? just kidding) be the correct option. I'm going to change it.

About the coincidence part he doesn't believe in coincidence between symptoms and medical events but he does in other things.
Take a look for example in the episode of the priest who hallucinated Jesus, when in the end the guy restores is faith and house said that the hallucination might have been a coincidence.

Catherine, try watching, oh, I don't know, just about any episode of House ever. Quite often he sees extant connections between events and symptoms that others don't see and had classified as, if anything, unconnected ("pure coincidence").

Of course, he's also said--though I paraphrase--"The little girl with two kinds of cancer won the lottery. It happens. (I.e., it was purely coincidence.)" He's contradictory, that's human, and that's part of what makes him such a great character.

And yeah, it was "would".

This is curious. House is usually conventionally grammatical. Surely he said: "There would be no religious people." ???

Second: The one part of House's character that seems out of place. House has several times said he doesn't believe in coincidence.
It's at odds with his sceptical persona. People who don't believe in coincidence usually believe in all sorts of irrational nonsense. They see meaning and pattern wherever two or more events occur together: hence, religion, miracles, magic, woo.
It's not a very House-like thing to say. But I suspect the writers of the show aren't very knowledgeable about scepticism and critical thinking.

That was a great episode last night. Sometimes House (like most TV nowadays) can be predictable at times, but not last night. The patient died, which has happened before but is still the exception rather than the rule. And I figured Wilson would try to foil House's plan somehow, but would never have guessed how.

Gay marriage, atheism, an unmarried woman adopting a baby...it's a wonder Fox still carries this show!

Glad to see a House group here. I started watching the show just because I thought it would be interesting. I actually thought it might be a little like Quincy (if anyone's even heard of or remembers that show!).

But now, in addition to the great writing, great acting, and the important issues they raise, I love the fact that House's atheism comes up directly pretty often. It's surprising and wonderful that an openly atheist character is so popular in the US!
