Comment by Sassan K. on July 22, 2011 at 11:05am Hi Pangea Girl! In fact - he is a former socialist Marxist and he is still to the left on most issues. He is simply an intellectual who understands the realities of dictators and tyrants and Islamic fascists. He shares the plight with the people in the Middle East who want real freedom - whether the Iranian people who demand nothing more and nothing less than a secular democracy - to the great Kurdish people in Iraq.
So - if you define foreign policy as the totality of what makes you a conservative - I guess he and I are both conservatives - but one must not be a political ideologue but base their thinking and viewpoints based on rational thinking rather than being on the "left" or "right". After all, as atheists we are supposed to be rational and logical, right?
Comment by Pangea Girl on July 22, 2011 at 9:19am Hello Sassan. Nicely said. Explain, for me, if you don't mind: you say Hitch's voice resonates from the left and the right. I've heard his political standing is very conservative, (tell me if I'm wrong!), but I'm a lefty and he resonates with me. I think he's fabulous for speaking against religion.
I wish I could understand everything he writes; I was trying last night after he posted his 7/21 article about, (no surprise), Rupurt Murdoch.
