Food Fried in Olive or Sunflower Oil Is Not Linked to Heart Disease...
Do you love fried food but worry about your heart? Good news!
The authors conclude: "In a Mediterranean country where olive and sunflower oils are the most commonly used fats for frying, and where large amounts of fried foods are consumed both at and away from home, no association was observed between fried food consumption and the risk of coronary heart disease or death."
In an accompanying editorial, Professor Michael Leitzmann from the University of Regensburg in Germany, says the study explodes the myth that "frying food is generally bad for the heart" but stresses that this "does not mean that frequent meals of fish and chips will have no health consequences." Apparently some myths about coconut oil are also being put to rest. I'll see if I can grab a link, later. I just wish I could find where to get it, in Japan. Apparently, the Okinawans are alllll over cocounut oil... so if it's available in Okinawa, I should be able to get it somewhere close-by!
