People who ate a handful of nuts every day were 20% less likely to die from any cause over 30 years than those who didn't eat nuts, in the largest study of its kind, which observed some 100,000 health professionals.

"The regular nut-eaters were found to be more slender than those who didn't eat nuts ...

The most obvious benefit was a reduction of 29 percent in deaths from heart disease .... But we also saw a significant reduction -- 11 percent -- in the risk of dying from cancer."

"... data analysis methods were used to rule out other factors that might have accounted for the mortality benefits. For example, the researchers found that individuals who ate more nuts were leaner, less likely to smoke, and more likely to exercise, use multivitamin supplements, consume more fruits and vegetables, and drink more alcohol. However, analysis was able to isolate the association between nuts and mortality independently of these other factors."

I love to eat nuts too. I eat them everyday.

How many times have I said it:

Cashew ... GESUNDHEIT!!!

I like nuts, but they are so expensive, I can't get myself to buy them very often.  I think they're good for my teeth also, as I don't eat many crunchy things.  I'll try to part with some of my $ for them more in the future.

It's a labor of love for me to spend hours cracking hickory and walnuts. I'm hoping the payoff is worth the effort! They say it is.

I don't remember eating hickory nuts.  Black walnuts are my favorites, especially in chocolate!  Those bad-boys require a huge amount of labor to get to the edible portion (plus they dye your fingers dark, even through gloves).

When I get some land, I'm going to grow more fruit & nut trees, with black walnuts being high on the list.

Spud, I have one black walnut tree in my yard (which is plenty!). I'm still eating walnuts from 2011, but I can't resist cracking them every year. I hate to see them go to waste. I love their strong flavor. Can't think of another adjective. They do stain!
