Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

"4 Worms In Church"
Four worms and a lesson to be learned!!!!
A minister decided that a visual demonstration would add emphasis to his Sunday sermon.
Four worms were placed into four separate jars.
The first worm was put into a container of alcohol.
The second worm was put into a container of cigarette smoke.
The third worm was put into a container of chocolate syrup..
The fourth worm was put into a container of good clean soil.
At the conclusion of the sermon, the Minister reported the following results:
The first worm in alcohol . . . . . . Dead
The second worm in cigarette smoke . . . Dead
Third worm in chocolate syrup . . . . Dead
Fourth worm in good clean soil . . . Alive …
So the Minister asked the congregation,
"What did you learn from this demonstration?"
Maxine was sitting in the back, quickly raised her hand and said . . .
"As long as you drink, smoke and eat chocolate,

you won't have worms!"

That pretty much ended the service!

I love the batman cat booklover - so cute!

Flying Atheist - sounds like an interesting documentary.

Tony - thanks for the picture. Rock paper scissors - funny stuff.

Ian, I saw my first opera (Tales of Hoffman) when I was 13 while visiting relatives in Cincinnati.  A great experience.  Wonderful spectacle.  As an adult, I've had season tickets to the opera on occasion, but that was many years ago.  I still remember having tears in my eyes in the final act of Bellini's 'Norma' when Norma dies.  It was stunningly beautiful and emotional.

Ian, an interesting tidbit from the documentary:  Paul was against (or, at times, neutral) about circumcision being a requirement for Gentiles (the Pagans) who wanted to join the early Jewish followers of Jesus'.  For Jews, circumcision was a biblical requirement.  The Greco-Roman pagans thought of circumcision as a horrible and appalling practice.  Could Pagans join with Jews in worshiping a Jewish Messiah without having to adhere to all the Mosaic biblical laws?  Paul seemed to think they could.  Of course, this would become just one of many riffs which eventually caused a split between the two groups.

The cat/batman pic is hilarious.

I'm a recent convert to opera. Have seen 4, all by Mozart. Figaro is the best. Planning on seeing "Tosca" next year in Feb.

Saw a documentary on the early Xtians a few years ago. They were divided into 2 groups, one in Jerusalem led by James/Jakov "Jesus' brother" and one led by Paul, which had the policy "don't upset the Romans". The Jewish uprising of 67 - 69 CE lead to the crushing of James's faction, leaving a clear field for the Pauline doctrine.
