Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Seeing Things (TheraminTrees)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Ruth Anthony-Gardner Feb 25. 2 Replies

TheraminTrees doesn't release videos very often these days,  but when he does, they are positive GEMS.  Most recent of his works is the following, wherein he dismantles some of the common rebuttals atheist get from believers when we assert our…Continue

Let's not define ourselves or others by our worst behaviors

Started by Ruth Anthony-Gardner. Last reply by Ruth Anthony-Gardner Feb 15. 4 Replies

My take on the recent melt down at Hang With Friends, of which I missed part, is that some of us were tripped up by a habit of thought. It's something we learn growing up, and use without realizing how much pain it can generate -  failing to…Continue

Seth Andrews' Rebuttal to "10 Women Christian Men Shouldn't Marry" (The Thinking Atheist)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Loren Miller Feb 6. 20 Replies

It seems as though some numb-nuts New York pastor by the name of Stephen Kim has written two marriage advice pieces for christian men and women.  Not surprisingly, his suggestions come straight out of his never-fail magic book.  Seth Andrews of The…Continue

Seth Andrews' New Book, "Sacred Cows" (The Thinking Atheist)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Patricia Feb 6. 7 Replies

For the last few podcasts, Seth Andrews has been alluding to a new literary effort he's been working on.  Well, the cat is out of the bag ... or perhaps I should say, the cow is out of the barn!  Seth's new opus is entitled: Sacred Cows: a…Continue

Living in the Answers

I am weary of those who declare they understand all the answers to the creation of the universe and Earth. They claim they know the answers to the questions of life, meaning, death, and the afterlife. Those with all the answer speak with confidence,…Continue

Some more things that look like something else:

How nice to be among realistic and positive people :-)

Thanks for the Mental Health Awareness pic, Napoleon! I understand more and more of anxiety disorder now that I've lived all these years with someone who suffers from it. It's often a heavy struggle to lead a life that looks ordinary and even boring to some people - but we know better than that - and I'm happy to be reminded that we're not alone.

Joan, I don't think the music will follow when this thread gets long enough to go to another page. So I will post a couple of things to test my hypothesis.

sk8eycat, of course a girl should have free access to contraceptives and I saw the subcutaneous type, it makes a lot of sense. I had to train rats when I was in school and I learned so much I recommend all parents take rat training courses. Pretty much the same principles apply. Your driving analogy is a good one.

Yes, playing with babies is a lot different than dealing with a two year old, or seven, or 14, or even 21 year old. After that, being with them depends on whether it is fun or not.

I love your story of dinner out with your parents and your response of "She talks BABY talk!" is perfect! Good for your parents. Gogo gaga with a baby is one thing, but with a four year old, you were one smart and courageous little cookie to be able to speak your truth.

You may never know why you feel as you do, but the more important thing is that you know what you feel.

I am so sorry your father had a drinking problem; it is hard for me to understand how a parent could abandon a child to alcohol.I've worked with a lot of kids of alcoholic parents and they all felt abandoned and had abandonment issues. That is a form of abuse, and you may have not been hurt physically, something happens to the spirit of a developing child when alcohol takes away the attention and effection of a parent.

Your insomnia and migraines concern me. Have you had a thorough physical recently? Do take care of yourself. There are so many wise nutrition-interested people here, there may be some remedies they could offer.

There is one thing I know for sure, you have spirit and gumption and have a wonderful sense of humor. You are also pragmatic and wise, and I don't pretend to know what may help you, but I find some relaxation in broadening my thinking. You probably have tried these before. Here are just two ideas:
The Most Astounding Fact - Neil deGrasse Tyson

Voice of Reason Lawrence Krauss Reality is liberating

I like these because I can get out of my stressed life for a few minutes and see a far larger universe.

You are a dear friend and may you be in full health.

Napoleon Bonaparte, I love you dearly, but your music drives me crazy. I can't turn it off. I have done everything I can to get it to stop. Can you turn it off, Please OH PLEASE! I shall be eternally grateful.
