Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Patricia, what a lovely sight! You, your red hair and purple hat and  LUMBAR-GHINI What fun. You are whimsical!
Is your  LUMBAR-GHINI street qualified ... it must be, you said you carry groceries in it. You are an inspiration for me.

Your husband's electric scooter looks fun ... you have an actual parade when you take off together.

Do you live in an area that gives you road room? And do you have to have a motor vehicle license tab?

This is about as close I could find for singing about driving your Lumbar-Ghini

Chris, what a nice thought about the benefits of Alzheimer's. I have not thought of that. Delighted to learn your aunt wanted to play at a fairy tale park and "she lost herself in wonder and delight". Your commitment to your aunt reveals your fine  quality of character. Good for you!

Grinning Cat, I give up. You offer a nice little piece of gristle to chew on when things get tiresome. Interesting about a headache helping solve puzzles.

Thanks for all your positive thoughts. This week is far more pleasant than last week. The good news, there are good and bad days, so I do experience relief. That gives me time to renew and refresh.

To be fair with the word puzzles, readers of Hofstadter's book also knew that the Tortoise had a headache at the time he was given the puzzles -- yet instead of interfering, it actually helped him solve them!

Thanks Ian. :)

Ruth, it was really cool to see that bear, if only very briefly!  I love your "Enjoy Summer" picture!  Happy First Day of Summer to everyone!

That's nice your Aunt enjoyed her day Chris.

You guys are all the best!  It really starts my day out right to get my morning coffee and come straight to Hang With Friends. ~ Mindy

Thanks, Ian, but no thanks. What else can we do except try to create the world we want to live in? And Aunt was the one who spontaneously visited and welcomed me, when she found out that her nephew had a girlfriend; that was a wonderful gift to me!

Welcome back, Mindy. That sounds like a great break you've had.

Bon apettit, Joan. Glad to hear that your taste buds are working.

Chris, that must have been a moving experience with your aunt. It's all too seldom that family take that kind of trouble with their older relatives so thank you on behalf of carers everywhere, including me :-)

I'm happy you're so strong, Joan, and I hope your chemo day goes well without discomfort.

A Positive Journal, what a wonderful idea! Now that I'm often in the old people's home I'll make a note on the positive side of Alzheimer's; Aunt, and some other patients I've met, manage to forget their unhappy memories. Bad marriages, unwanted children, rape, injury and abuse disappear as if they never happened, and a calm world of kind faces, flowers and woolly animals opens. It's quite a job to enable patients to enter that safe world and in the last two years I've learnt to admire the caretakers in Aunts' ward.

Grinning Cat, hey, I like the puzzle,

"Find a common English word that begins with "he" and ends with "he", and

Find a common English word that contains "adac".
I'll give those a try tomorrow morning.

Comment by Joan Denoo on June 21, 2013 at 2:28am

Chris, I kind of jumped when you described your demented 78 year old aunt. Oh! I think my mind is still strong. That is another thing for which I am grateful. I'll write about lack of dementia in my Positive Journal. That little project works well to keep my focus on healthy things.
