Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Ian, I look forward to your reports. This picture just whets my appetite for the narrative. Safe travels.

Remembering how hard I tried to please others, and how miserably I failed, it isn't difficult to realize my belief system kept my mind bound. I thought I was created to please others and to serve them. Life has a way of tossing bombs in on a belief system that shatters it all to pieces, and one has to rethink what is true and what is delusion. Examining beliefs is what good therapy is all about, or good education, for that matter.

Learning how to think for oneself, to pay attention to what is happening, remembering what happened in the past to cause one to form a belief, anticipating what will happen if nothing is changed, and then forming new ideas into new beliefs that can be based on reason, has a higher probability of leading to healthy, happy functioning. If one discovers the new idea does not lead to a flourishing, then rethink the beliefs and try again. Nothing is set in concrete or made certain in scripture.

Returned in the early hours from a really good holiday on Crete. Too tired to catch up now but will be back with you soon. Me and fellow travellers in Impros gorge.

The internet & phone spying began with Dubya and the unconstitutional Patriot Act; we're just finding out the details now.

You'd think we were surrounded by armed enemies.  Or  (senior moment...I've forgotten the title) as the comic strip said (OH! it was "Pogo"!)..."We have met the enemy, and he is us."

We have become so paranoid since 9-11 that we ARE our own worst enemy.

I'm glad I'm old.

Internet spying - I'd have thought it was more more like George W to do things like that. Time to put up a picture of my bare bottom: that's for you, NSA!

I'll be careful to not say anything that could be used against me in a court of law. ;)

Comfortable?  NOT!

The revelations of spying on telephone (Verizon) customers are extraordinary -- but it gets even worse.  The government is spying, in real time, on all Internet users. From the Guardian:

The National Security Agency has obtained direct access to the systems of Google, Facebook, Apple and other US internet giants, according to a top secret document obtained by the Guardian.

The NSA access is part of a previously undisclosed program called PRISM, which allows officials to collect material including search history, the content of emails, file transfers and live chats, the document says.
