Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.
Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.
Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.
This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.
A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.
Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Comment by sk8eycat on July 13, 2012 at 1:10pm Patricia: isn't there an oldie that goes: "In anciant Egypt, cats were worshipped as gods. cats have never forgotten this."
(Actually, they were worshipped not only for their regal behavior, but because they performed a vital service...keeping vermin out of the grain supply. Even in the lifetime of Julius Caesar, harming or killing a cat was a capital offense. I like that.)
Comment by Patricia on July 13, 2012 at 12:47pm Yes Flying Atheist......we love our cats, (& other pets & animals) They never try to convince us to believe crap & go to church! Hahaha!!!
Comment by Patricia on July 13, 2012 at 12:31pm I'm 65, breast cancer kick-asser, a dozen surgeries for other things as well, a husband with an extremely bad heart, a son diagnosed with diabetes at age 5, & now I'm tied to a bathroom with an inflammatory bowel disease, which I absolutely hate.....but.....I don't feel old.......it's just part of the process. The hardest to deal with is my daughter being brain-washed into religion when she was young, impressionable, in love, & got married at 19. She was never in a church & never questioned anything as she grew up either. But thankfully they live in another city hours away & I have made it well-known they can believe whatever, & we'll leave the subject closed....or they make family trouble with us. The wall between us now is already high enough, but I am not going to put up & shut up, family or not. Simple.....I guess.
Comment by sk8eycat on July 13, 2012 at 12:03pm @booklover: When I tunred 30, there was a catch-phrase, "Don't trust anyone over 30," I was single, I hated my job, and I thought I was a complete failure. Oh, and on my birthday, I got a speeding ticket on the way to the job I hated.
I don't remember now how I got over it, but I'm still here, I eventually got better jobs, I'm still single (I think that was better for me in the long run). Im not rich, but I have a house full of books that I reread constantly, two cats to purr on me when I need that, and a few good friends.
I have had Type 2 diabetes for 12 years now, and I'm still learning how to cope with that...I tend to forget to eat, and have hypoglycemic attacks.
But I'm okay. I'm still quietly enjoying myself.
AND I WANT TO THANK EVERYBODY IN THIS GROUP for putting up with my ranting over Judith Hayes' death for the past 2 weeks...she still had so much to give to the world, especially atheist newbies. But I'm over the anger and confusion and grief. Mostly.
Treat yourself to something decadent (a hot fudge sundae?), a day at a spa, or just have your hair done, something like that. Having somebody else wash and blow-dry my hair makes me feel refreshed. Try it.
Thank you Flying Atheist for the cat video.
Comment by booklover on July 13, 2012 at 7:12am Chris, I'm only 45, but I feel old. Isn't that sad? I have a medical condition that can be mostly controlled with drugs, but I have a few bad days a month, that is disheartening. But on my good days, of which there are many, I feel fine and much better mentally. However when our now 18-year old son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (an auto immune disease unlike type 2), at the age of 10, I feel like I aged 10 years overnight. I was a worrier before that, but that put me over the edge.
Anyway, Not to sound DEPRESSING or anything! lol, but I don't feel young. I have a great life, and I appreciate it, but I don't feel young anymore.
@booklover - Old? We're not old. It's just that the little counter keeps ticking, but we stay young.
