Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

I'm home, and thanks for all the good wishes, everyone!  I really needed to get out of this house for a few days, and not be reminded of Hairy Jerry every time I turned around.

I spent 3 days glued to MSNBC, and then Saturday night A&E ran "Ground Hog Day." I'd never seen it before, and several friends had recommended it highly.  My reaction?: meh. I  guess I've read too many similar stories in Analog and/or Fantasy & Science Fiction. I knew everything that was going to happen....and the scene where the truck goes over a cliff and explodes spectacularly, turned me right off.  That does NOT happen in real life. Or maybe only extremely rarely.

Am I a cynic?  Or have I lived around the film industry too long (since I was 5 years old)?

Anyroad, it's good to be back, and now I can afford to have my hair cut, and take a friend to a local pub for bangers and mash.  NOT the best thing for  my diabetes, but I figure one meal like that won't kill me.  And I WANT it!  tee-hee!

Poor Ian indeed.  Sorry about your dementia troubles, but like the sound of your delicious balcony crop.

And, Chris, it's nice to hear your auntie being overjoyed to see you.

Spice, the Old Mama Cat  came out of the barn and had breakfast with me on the patio this morning. We had a sweet nose rub, and I gave her a brushing. Laura does a beautiful job of keeping all the animals well groomed and it was easy to groom her long hair.

Ian, I am very sorry that these stressors come, one with another. Take good care of yourself. I hope your Mum and step-mum are relatively free of anxiety.  Memories mean a lot to older folks and I know you have the patience to hear the same ones over again. Funny how old memories pop up from out of no where, giving sweet thoughts to enjoy.

Poor Ian, it's really bad when you've got TWO demented old ladies to care for, I do hope you get enough time for yourself. Here we've only got one: Auntie (Alzheimer's and vascular). I know all about the three same conversations in ten minutes, but most of the time she's so overjoyed to see us that I don't mind the endless repetitions. The memory may be gone: the love stays.

Hello all.

Got back from Enlgand a week ago but haven't been in the mood for writing much. The time there was a bit mixed.

Had a meeting (at last) with a specialist doctor concerning my Mum's dementia. From the symptoms Mum displayed during the meeting and from what we as a family could relate the doctor decided that she shows signs of 3 types of dementia: Alzheimers, Lewy bodies and vascular. Her rate of decline is also alarming, for us and the staff at the care home. She's also lost 16 kilos since admission in December.

My step-mum is also in a care home now. She talks about returning home "when she gets over this" but hasn't stood up without support for nearly 6 months now so I doubt that will happen. She's also getting so forgetful that you can have the same conversation 3 times in 10 minutes. Not a good sign.

On the good side, I spent some days with my "little" brother and his family. He and his wife have just had their silver wedding anniversary so we went to the church where they got hitched and re-took some wedding photos 25 years on, recceding hairline and chubby stomachs included. It was a real pleasure to spend some relaxed time with them.

Here at home: I've harvested my gooseberries and the honeysuckle is having a burst of late flowering. There are some blueberries on the way and lots of tomatoes although there might not be enough sun now to ripen them so they'll end up as chutney.  The mint is doing well but starting to go to seed. Must get it eaten of preserved soon. Not a bad crop for a little balcony.

Hope things are going well for all of you. I will try to keep up in the future. Hugs to each and every one of you.
