Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

I forgot to say that I still have Pumpkin, aka Prancer, aka The Brat. He and Jerry weren't exactly friends, but  he KNOWS something happened today.  You can't tell ME that cats (and dogs) aren't sentient creatures.

Thank you for the flowers, Carl.  They're lovely.

Dirty Elaine.

Elaine, so sorry to hear that news.  Thanks for checking in an letting us know.  We've all been thinking about you two.  Although the finally outcome was not a  surprise, getting there is never easy.  If it's any consolation, you can be sure that Jerry had the best of care and shared a wonderful companion for many years. -- Carl

Hello.  I haven't been around for a while because I was fussing over Hairy Jerry, and when I wasn't fussing, I was in my room re-reading my favorite books to take my mind off everything.

SO...it finally got to the point that Jerry couldn't even swallow water, and we took him to the vet today....and you know the rest. It was actually very peaceful for him, but my eyes are still wet from time to time.

I'm blaming myself as usual...for hanging on to him as long as I did. I always do this.  I'll get over it, and be back sometime soon

Bye-bye, Jerry. You were the most affectionate cat I've had in ages.

Melinda, that is exactly why we have to fight against health insurance linked to jobs, and for universal health coverage. It is a tough fight, and one well worth the effort. Our nation cannot be strong as long as the system doesn't work for all its citizens.

It seems to me, the major issue besides health care for all, is education for all, even life-long learning. Investments in education always pay back to the system more than it takes out.

Take a simple example, when I lived in Alaska, the native kids didn't know about hygiene. With just a few very short, quick instructions, we were able to teach them how to blow their noses into tissues, toss them into a fire, and how to wash their hands. The colds and flu went down, school attendance improved, and the general health of the kids improved. Prevention is so easy, doesn't require a degree in science, is easy to learn and everyone benefits.

Does your husband have good stress management techniques? In reality, one can't cure stupid, and when management is not as smart as they think they are, the workers pay a price. So, workers can learn procedures that reduce stress, even as they take on management. Part of the strategy is building coalitions, which is exactly what unions do.

With you and your kids having health problems, and living in a culture such as ours, we need strong leadership to take on systemic problems. You can't do it alone, but you can and do take necessary action when it is called for. This is no time for prayer ... it is time for praxis, thought + action.

Praxis is usually considered a liberation theology word meaning to express how the Gospel of Jesus Christ is to be lived in the world.
In secular terms, it means the process by which a theory, lesson, or skill is enacted, practiced. embodied, or realised.

Thought without action is a daydream. Action without thought is a chaotic nightmare.

Thanks Joan!  The management heard him alright.  He's in a Union, so he can say a little more than if he wasn't, and 'get away with it.'  Meaning, he wouldn't lose his job over it.  They 'fixed' it, but they'll do something dumb again, and soon. There is no doubt about that!  His job is very stressful physically, and then management causes the workers mental stress by being idiots.  I feel really bad, but he has to stay there.  We have REALLY good health ins., and the kids and I need it.  Luckily the kids can stay on it until they're 26.  It sucks having your health ins. tied to your job, but then, that's a whole other can-of-worms!

I hope you get a break in the heat Chris!  It really sucked when  we had ours a few weeks ago!
