Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Seth Andrews - The Copycats: How Christianity Steals The Best Ideas

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Soren Sagan 4 hours ago. 9 Replies

Many of us have observed or learned how christianity shamelessly borrows from other sources to bolster its position and show off its supposed wonderfulness.  Well, Seth Andrews of The Thinking Atheist podcast has compiled some of the more modern-day…Continue

Thank you for the adorable video Napoleon!  I like to start my day smiling! :)

Have a good "Hump Day" everybody!

That is much more than the tourist route, Napoleon! Must have been a good trip! (The tourist route is half a day: Rijksmuseum - Night Watch, tulip fields and Marken, now get back into the bus and quick!)

I suppose the Starlings are enjoying themselves Chris because most birds seem to have joyous lives, flying, flirting and singing. I live adjacent to the Thames and the Mallards are starting to be friendly as they do every spring. The females will soon be choosing some strange nesting spot and eggs will start to hatch.

I know Rotterdam and much of Nederlands because I cycled around the country from Rotterdam up to Amsterdam then continued north along the coast up to Friesland and back down to Arnem and then into Germany over six weeks. Of course, I enjoyed it and the Coffee Shops are a brilliant thing.

Very special bird, Napoleon! I wondered how much training he had, then remembered the starlings at Rotterdam Central Station - they mimick the screeching sounds of trams and trains. I can't figure what they get out of it - fun?

I don't know which kind of bird it is but I think it lives somewhere in North America. When I was a child in Australia we were often visited by wild parrots including Cockatoos which we sometimes caught and kept as pets for a while before letting them go back to the wild again. With other birds such as the Kookaburra they created a beautiful cacophony of sound and in captivity were friendly and communicative, and liked mimicking us.

sk8eycat  I can imagine the Mynah going through the gears as you describe and it's very funny.

Joan, the only problem with my two question is that the average doorbell-ringer probably doesn't understand  about DNA, and how "X" and "Y" chromosomes enter into determining the sex of offspring.

I do know that if all the Holey Spook did was activate one of Mary's ova without intercourse of any kind, Jesus should have been a girl.

Napoleon, I enjoy your bird talker! Do you know what kind of bird it is?

Comment by sk8eycat on April 8, 2014 at 11:57pm

Napoleon, is that a mynah?  I used to "know" one who was raised next to a motorcycle repair shop, and he could perfectly imitate a Harley starting up and driving away.  He even went through some motions...rhythmic bobbing during the start-up, and then spreading his wings and leaning forward on his perch during the drive-away part.

Also, my father's aunt had a mynah who would say, "Why don't you get a GOOD cigar?" He's do that when Dad would light up his pipe. (Dad lived with Aunt Grace when  he was going to college...smoking a pipe was supposed to be "cool.")

Felane, wonderful questions. They go onto the sheet!

Well done, Joan. You have, as we say in England, bottle.

Patricia, I too search hard for a daily laugh or smile.

Loren, I'm glad you enjoyed your evening but I wouldn't attend myself. I used to take part in debates on Dawkin's website but soon tired of the sycophancy. "I can never be as good an atheist as Richard" was the comment that finally turned me off. Hero worship just isn't a part of my nature.
