Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Joan, is this you?

Would welcome the chance to turn down pain signals in cases of toothache!

Realistically, I would like the ability to turn-off pain signals and have them come back automatically after a certain amount of time, or if they increased in intensity.

I think scientists will find a way to let us do that in the not too distant future.

Joan, I sometime wish I had no pain signals, but I can see where it can cause the loss of limbs and even be life threatening.

I thought it was interesting when I learned years ago that part of the reason people with Leprosy loose limbs is because they can become too damaged before the person realizes it.

Sounds like it's time for me to get some seeds for gardening.

Thanks for your support. I'm glad to have you as friends.

Glad to hear that your nerves are coming back online, Joan and that the pain in your fingers has gone. Hope the feet wake up soon. Happy sowing and planting :-)

Ummmm....please remember that some unions don't do Jack Schidt except collect dues from the members.  When I was in Holiiday, our union was in cahoots with the brass, and we got NO help.  It would have been a joke except that our dues were taken out of our paychecks without our permission, and the contracts we signed were NOT with Holiday, but with AGVA...giving us their permission to skate with HOI for peanuts and occasional cheese sandwiches on Saturdays.

After I left Holiday, Bobby Kennedy (then JFK's Atty. General) investigated AGVA because their membership also included strippers and "B-Girls."  (American Guild of Variety Artists)

Someone tried to start a union for skaters only, but it didn't work until competitive "amateur" skaters started winning money and huge endorsements in addition to those tacky gold-plated medals.  By then all the big professional shows were dead.

Ian, I'm sorry that your boss is so horrible, and you have to work with someone like her!  I'm very glad you had union representation.  My husband is in a union, and it's comforting to know there is someone there to stick up for him if something ever were to happen.  Hang in there!  {{{{{cyber-hug}}}}

Ian, your working conditions sound very unfavorable. I can see why you would want to find a new position. If there were good management, so much would be better. I wish you could get the position, if that is what you want.

My neuropathy is from diabetes, exacerbated by cancer treatment. My chemo doctor has been keeping track of its development as it slowly moves up my legs and fingers.

There is no pain in my feet. That is the problem, it affects the nerve endings and the brain doesn't get a sensation transmission. There is no feeling. I could step on a nail and not feel it. Or put my hands or feet in boiling water and have no pain sensation.

When the dr. started me on this new medication she told me there would be a strange feeling that she couldn't describe. The pharmacist said the same thing. I took the first pill and could describe the feeling exactly: it was like every synaptic connection shot off sparks all over my body. They were not painful at all, but I sure didn't get any sleep the first night.

I started out by taking on pill a day for three days, then two for three days and then three for the rest of the Rx. After that, the dr. re-evaluated me and started me on upping the dosage by one a day for three day, two a day for three days and three a day for the rest of that Rx. We keep doing that until we can get feeling back into my feet.

My finger tips were hurting when I typed before I started the Rx, and that pain is completely gone.

All the Rx's continue to keep me in a fatigue state but with spring coming on, I feel excited about doing something productive. I now have all my seed starting supplies, including seeds, ready to plant inside. I am ready!

Not my photo, Felaine. It's something a niece posted on FB.

Joan, it's not unusual in elderly care for the worker to get the kicks. The people who have been complaining about me are the family of that particular resident and the boss won't/can't say that "the problem with your husband/father is that he's a huge pain in the arse". It's so much easier to drop the shit further down the hierarchy onto those at the bottom. I think the family might have problems themselves, perhaps guilt about having him put in a care unit and/or some anger that his illness has plagued their lives for 40 years so they also want a scapegoat.

To be honest, I'm tired of this line of work. I was over 13 years at one very good place but when that closed I was moved around and around until I ended where I am now, a place with a bad reputation, well justified as it turned out, even though the present boss is the 4th in the 2 years I've been there. In a way I was hoping that I would get the same offer as the last person to get sacked: leave now without speaking to colleagues and get paid for the next 5 months. I'm looking for other jobs but they're not out there. Ah well, something will turn up. Or not. It won't stop me from enjoying the greater part of my life.

Joan, is it "post-theraputic neuralgia" you're suffering from? It sounds really unpleasant. I hope the pain-management works.
