Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Grinning Cat Jan 22. 13 Replies

It seems as though some numb-nuts New York pastor by the name of Stephen Kim has written two marriage advice pieces for christian men and women.  Not surprisingly, his suggestions come straight out of his never-fail magic book.  Seth Andrews of The…Continue

I am weary of those who declare they understand all the answers to the creation of the universe and Earth. They claim they know the answers to the questions of life, meaning, death, and the afterlife. Those with all the answer speak with confidence,…Continue

Seth Andrews - The Copycats: How Christianity Steals The Best Ideas

Many of us have observed or learned how christianity shamelessly borrows from other sources to bolster its position and show off its supposed wonderfulness.  Well, Seth Andrews of The Thinking Atheist podcast has compiled some of the more modern-day…Continue

Felaine, thanks for the link. I hate to be such a bother and really appreciate that you are willing to help when I am out of the loop as far as links are concerned.

I like having you around, Felaine. You are a friend to me too. I'm glad you have your fur-babies. They make life nice.

I know, the Golden Years aren't so golden for too many people. You stay so cheery on this site and bring so much joy and laughter, the kind that one feels in the belly. It is hard for me to imagine you being depressed.

I am glad you have your fur-people, and have your project with the newsletter.

Well, for whatever it is worth, I count you as a dear and trusted friend and hope you find ways to feel the joy that you want and need. I have to borrow from a piece my daughter sent this past week; this is just for you.

Joan, if I didn't have two cats to support, I would take an overdose the next time I get my Rx refilled.  I don't really give a damn about my twisted sister....but the cats are another matter.

I have never wanted to live a long life...I did what I really wanted to do before I was 30.  All I am doing right now is surviving, and it isn't much fun...or even comfortable.

PS: Clinical depression runs in both sides of our family....both parents felt they had lived too long....dad had major strokes before he finally left the building at 82, and mother had operations, radiation, chemo, all in one year.  They cured her cancer, but the rest of her body slowly fell apart...for the next 9 years.  It was horrendous.  I don't want to do that.  But I can't abandon my fur-people....

Felaine, we have fire in our bellies, common sense in our brains, a lifetime of experience and know how outrageous this Boom and Bust economy is. We can work on campaigns, have the party put up yard signs, Offer a class in geriatrics at your local school, Do some awareness building with your neighborhood doctors and dentists, develop a reputation as a no-nonsense person.

Some of my ideas will surely make matters worse, so into the trash bin they go. I know I am not going to do some of the things I did as a young woman on a mission.

Our closest neighbors are either older and more frail than we are, or have abandoned their houses (to move in with offspring, or into an assisted-living building) because they can't get a decent price for them....and this is a "good" neighborhood!  Elementary school one block up the hill, convenience stores and some doctors and dentists' offices one block down the hill....

BUT the resale value of our house has dropped from $700,000 to $550,000 in the past six or seven years, and all our neighbors are in a similar fix.. F*CK you so much, Mr. Bush!
