Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Joan, your Voice Of Reason video was just beautiful!  I wish I could have everyone I know watch it.

Napoleon, Don't I know it!  I am on meds for anxiety and panic attacks. I have been for 20 years, and I should have been even before that. Fortunately we've come a long way with acceptance of these things!

Felaine, you did what was best for you, and you knew what you could handle and what you could not.  That makes you very self-aware and smart!  I wanted kids, had 2 miscarriages before 6 weeks, and gave birth to 2 full-term.  When people said they were sorry I lost my 'baby', I thought, "what?".  It wasn't a baby yet.  I was only a couple of weeks.  I never for a minute mourned losing a 'baby.'  It was probably not even an embryo yet.  And the 2 I did have, and still have, I can't even begin to say how overwhelming it is to be a parent.  They are the best things that ever happened to me, but I will NEVER know a true moments peace for the rest of my life.  I love them so overwhelmingly I will worry until my last breath.  It is NOT for everyone.  You should never feel ashamed.

Joan, Lawrence Krauss' view is amazing indeed!  So much more so than the simplistic and childish religious stories.

I learned 4 new words in your unsettled weather report :)

Couldn't get "Look'n at daddy" video to play.

Felaine, I'm also self-centered and responsibility is not something I like either.  I also agree there are too many unwanted, abused, lonely children in the world.

Although, if I had children they would not be abused or lonely, and probably not unwanted, despite my dislike of responsibility.  I've taken responsibility seriously when I've had to.

Joan, the only fact I knew for sure from the time I was about 13 (after doing a lot of baby-sitting to pay for skating lessons) was that I never, ever wanted to have children.  I'm too self-centered to be a decent parent; sometimes even the daily cat care gets on my left nerve.

Mother kept telling me that I'd change my attitude once I had a baby (she was terribly anxious to be a grandmother), but I didn't think it would be fair, or safe, for the child to take such a risk.

I got pregnant 3 times (before the Pill), and got violently ill before I even missed a period every single time.  So I had 3 abortions before the 6th week...all illegal, of course.  A lot of people helped me find real MDs who were willing to do D&Cs on the sly.

I still sometimes think I should be ashamed, but I don't.  I think it's a worse "sin" to bring an unwanted child into the world than it is to abort one...or 3.  There are too many unwanted, abused, lonely children as it is.

sk8eycat, We learned so many things that are not true. I guess that is what growing up means ... question authority, think for yourself, enjoy today for this is all there is, and appreciate natural things.

By the way, in the movie, "Look'n at daddy"  there is scene that looked like our house at feeding time 48 years ago.

Joan, thank you.  Stuff like that just takes my breath away.

I wish I'd known some of this when I was a teen, struggling to make myself believe what I was told in church.  I just couldn't believe that my contemporaries actually had two-way conversations with a god, and I thought the fault was mine.

Unsettled weather including snozzle, frizzle, grapple, drizzle, snow, fozzle, and frain. Walks and roads covered with ice and I am snug in my blanket with a nice cup of coffee and home-grown and made Concord grape juice.

Thanks Steph and Atheist Cat.  That's one of my favorite sayings.
