Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.
Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.
Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.
This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.
A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.
Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

@Joan Denoo - yes, I am a bookworm! There's nothing like parents that need only one book and tell you constantly that a girl doesn't need to know whatever you asked - you never stop reading after that.

Comment by Joan Denoo on August 18, 2012 at 12:15am @sk8eycat, what a brave mother caring for her pups. Odd she would choose a fire truck to place them after such a harrowing experience. Trust must have been high, and she probably understood who would protect her and her litter.
Comment by Joan Denoo on August 18, 2012 at 12:10am @Chris Breman, my goodness, the numbers of books and your wide range of interest is impressive. You must have been born with an inquiring mind! After retiring, reading became my passion and I spend a lot of time with a book; however, I find myself napping a lot more. Oh well, I have worked hard and I really enjoy the opportunity to just be present to the natural order of things, the rhythms and patterns.
Sounds like you are a book-worm, too. It is a lovely way to spend time.
Comment by Joan Denoo on August 18, 2012 at 12:06am @The Flying Atheist, there is a difference between those who don't finish high school and continue to pursue interests beyond the mundane daily life. I find them open to questioning, exploring for new information, and willing to look at old ways of thinking and acting and experimenting with non-traditional ideas. As I think back to my childhood, the people I admired and wanted to spend time with were the questioners, seekers.
Did you feel accepted and supported by your grandfather? He must have meant a lot to you, to remember him with such loving and respectful terms.
Comment by The Flying Atheist on August 17, 2012 at 11:51pm My grandfather never finished high school, which was pretty common for someone born in 1910, but he was always reading and learning about some topic in a book from the library. He was a very fun, kind, and down to earth person. I admired him for his personality and for his scholarly eagerness to learn and to pass on what he knew.
I collect internetpictures from all over the world, and there are some 3000 books here: history, evolution, atheism, philosophy, DIYbooks and a lot of whodunnits and literature. I started to read lots of different things to patch up my poor education - still not finished ;-)
