Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Happily, I am now a five year breast cancer survivor, and I am thankful to my friends, family, my health care team, and to science and medical discoveries. Dealing with cancer and treatment is never easy and it's damned scary, but it is easier when…Continue

Felaine, I've never heard of the Duggar family cult before.  The way those children are raised is very sad.

I read something the other day about the Duggar family cult (Gothardism, or something); it's much worse than I ever imagined.  They might as well put both the girls and the boys in burkas for the rest of their lives....

I feel profoundly sorry for those children.

As an EX moron, I took one look at a family who'd just had baby number 17....& I freaked. No bloody way I was ever doing that!!!! I was about 15, & was already in the throes of tossing the whole church thing.

Glad you're home safe, Ian.

Ian, it's not weird. It's perfectly sensible if you believe (as Sam Harris says, truly believe) in documents such as Bible, Qur'an etc.

Agreed, Carl. We can hope that religious intitutions become more and more peripheral to real life.

There was a great fuss in Denmark recently when a Muslim examiner wouldn't shake hands with women examinees. What most Danes don't realise is that about one third of male priests in the Danish "Folkekirke" don't agree with the ordination of women and won't shake hands with their female colleagues. Weird, the lot of them.

"Let the church keep marginalizing their women.  Hopefully this will give women the incentive to just give up on the whole institution all together. "

These are my thoughts too. In fact, I sometimes wonder why on earth are theist women theists? Can't they see the discrimination against them? Its a different thing for oppressed women (such as Muslim women in the Middle East), who have no other option but to be believers.

I'm talking about women who voluntarily follow certain religions. All major religions (Islam, Christianity, Hinduism) are discriminatory against women.

One of the small protestant churches here believes that women should shut up, that women are unfit to be leaders and they want to take away the right to vote from us. I'd think like Carl, it's an incentive to leave the church - but there is a group of women who stay in that church and try to get human rights. Very strange!
