Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Felaine, I wouldn't want to be caught in that earthquake. It will devastate everything. My cousin was in the Northridge quake; they slept on the second floor and were tossed out of bed. They tried to get downstairs and the stairwell had collapsed. The next morning they found their china closet tipped over on the sofa and the only thing that didn't break was an antique clock that landed on the sofa.

I can't even imagine what you must have experienced. Your poor cat surely had some advanced notice. I wonder what it is they feel? Something as delicate and valuable as your mother's crystal can't be replaced. On the other hand, you survived, I hope unscathed.

Here is an update just in at 10:55 PM Spokane, time

If you click on this, you might be able to scan in and out.

Mindy, I hope they learn something useful about your son's condition!

And the joy in so many of those one-second snippets in the video Carl shared is contagious!

I've been doing the same thing with the USGS maps, including the whole world, sometimes.  It scares me, but fascinates me, too.  The USCS maps change as soon as another "event" occurs.

I just had to learn what that silly icon was all about...you can choose all kinds of different views, including every known fault line in the USA....

And a "perfect" deity was supposed to have made all this chaos?  Huh!

During the 1970 (?) Sylmar quake, it was pitch dark (after a bright flash of light outside), and seemed to go on forever.  I was holding onto the edges of my mattress with all fingers and toes, moaning, "Make it stop!  Make it STOP!"

My cat woke me up just before the quake because he was frantic to go outside...I thought he just had to pee, or something, so I let him out.  He didn't come back for three days.  I was afraid he'd been grabbed by a coyote or something.

Our house was a mess; all the kitchen cupboards had flown open, and the contents were all over the floor...including flour and sugar.  Ugh.. And  Mother's wedding crystal glasses were in shards. Not a single one survived.

Slopped a lot of water out of the pool, too, but the 1994 Northridge quake did more damage to the pool than to the house.

I just do NOT want to be here when the southern end of the San Andreas Fault finally becomes unstuck...I think it's going to flatten Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties altogether.  I hope it stays locked till my ashes are fish food.

Felaine, I misunderstood your question. The red dots on my Google Earth all shifted from red to orange when the event was 24 hours old. I watched them change color, one by one.

Joan, I finally figured out how to change the maps on the USGS web site...there's a silly icon that looks like a gear; click on it and you get a drop-down menu that lets you look at all kinds of different views.

Carl, your celebration around the Earth with clips of so many different events reveals a broad range of ways to celebrate.

Love your word transformations and photos. Very clever.

Mindy, sorry to learn your son's swollen and painful knee has not been diagnosed.

Felaine, I copied your earthquake map to my computer, scanned back until I got the entire Earth, and sent it back to you. It is quite remarkable to see all those swarms around the Pacific Rim.

LOL Napoleon!!! :)

Just got back from the Orthopedist, they can't find WHY my son's knee is swollen and hurts.  They've done so many tests.  Next stop, more blood work to see if it's something weird like Lyme Disease.  If nothing shows, then they will go in with a camera and take samples.  Nothing can be easy!
