Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Thanks for the warning Mindy.  I'd better stop watching Fox News. I can't afford a new TV.

Tony, I love the image Sandburg paints when he says "on little cat feet."

Joan, thanks for the Neil deGrasse Tyson video.  I smiled when he  mentioned the blob movie because that one had me up all night when I was a teenager.

FOG

THE fog comes on little cat feet.

It sits looking over harbor and city

on silent haunches, and then moves on.

by Carl Sandburg.

Such a wonderfully evocative piece. Very minimalist, yet his full voice strides through, filling up ones thoughts and emotions.

Joan sounds like you had a fun weekend.

How is everyone this week?

Anyone doing anything cool?

I would like to see a science fiction movie scripted by Tyson. Imagination and originality counts.

Joan, what a wonderful weekend!  I love your description.  Your granddaughter is pretty, and your great-grandson adorable! What a neat family you grew!!!! :)  I agree with you about Carl having a generous nature, and no one needing to have so much.  I would love to be able to be more generous with money!  Maybe in time!  I do what I can now. I wish I had the guts to say what you say when someone says "I'll pray for you."

Loren, love you tongue in cheek cartoon and your "wistful and gentle for a Monday morning" music.

Patricia, great "copy dogs" clip.

Hi Joseph. By all means, speak up about your beliefs, with concrete examples of why you don't believe superstitions and the dignity and self-respect you receive for yourself, knowing you stand on your own two feet and don't have to imagine some guy-in-the-sky helper available to pull you our of quicksand of one's own making. Why would anyone want to put faith into a belief system and scriptures of a Stone Age people who may have been good goat herders, but without the knowledge of science to help make informed decisions. Frankly, I find the whole religious thing ludicrous nonsense. I just had an experience with faux-religion.  A man living in a small community, a volunteer fire fighter, and a very religious man, suffers from acute leukemia. His church members sent cards and get well greetings as well as "I'll pray for you" messages and many said they would help with remodeling their home to make it easier for his wife to care for him. Not one church member who said they would pray came to help with the many tasks that needed to be done. The volunteer fire district members came, even with kids helping, and completed the job. I don't know if the man thanked god or his fire district members. I hope he made the connection. Cheap grace is no grace as far as I am concerned. I like caustic remarks to people who ask if I have been "saved", i.e. "No! I don't believe in superstitions!" or if they say, "I'll pray for you" I respond, "I'll think for you!" I don't think it is rude to be honest. It is stupid to be timid in such events. I hold no respect for religious thoughts. Others are entitled to their opinions, and not all opinions are equal.
