Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

The Flying Atheist said it so well, Melinda. You daughter has grounds to appeal the internship decision.

I hope you all get a chuckle out of this sign.

The power of support. Shauna has a "cloud of witnesses" with her s she takes her stand!

Carl, I agree with Joan!  Splendid Response!  I am going to have you speak to her adviser! lol ;)  We were seriously astounded.  Seriously, WTF?  HOW does that make ANY sense?!  Even if isn't the adviser's rule, Shauna should find out who is the person who makes that decision, and talk to them.  It's CRAZY!!  Just like most of the world!  Thank you for responding to my post.  I am going to tell my daughter that all of you think she should appeal this stupid rule.  We all think it's stupid!

The Flying Atheist, SPLENDID RESPONSE!

Comment by The Flying Atheist on April 23, 2013 at 7:09pm

Melinda, If I were your daughter I would definitely appeal that crazy internship decision.  Her adviser is expecting her to take a vow of poverty?!  She's in college trying to make ends meet, dammit!!  That adviser should instead be thrilled that your daughter was able to procure an internship (whether paid or not) with a company that wasn't even interested in taking on an intern UNTIL they met her.  That says a lot about your daughter and her talents.  The adviser should also see this as a positive reflection upon the college and their students.  Perhaps a personal conversation can take place between the boss at the newspaper office and the adviser at the college to discuss your daughter's performance.  The fact that the position was paid should be irrelevant.  If the adviser doesn't give in, perhaps you can snidely ask him/her to please make a monetary donation to your daughter's college fund.  Just my 2 cents.  Good luck to her.

Patricia, thanks for the G. Graffin quote about non-believing countries.

Loren, what a great saying about empathy & religion, and “If god were a car” is excellent.

Melinda, I love the “Before you jump” cat.  Made me laugh.
