Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Well, it's that time of year again.  Time to gird our loins, put on our battle armor and join the (dah-dah DAAAAAH!) WAR AGAINST CHRISTMAS!!! [groan!] Yeah, most of us have heard that crap before, probably too many times, in fact, how atheists are…Continue

Seth Andrews - The Copycats: How Christianity Steals The Best Ideas

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Loren Miller on Wednesday. 11 Replies

Many of us have observed or learned how christianity shamelessly borrows from other sources to bolster its position and show off its supposed wonderfulness.  Well, Seth Andrews of The Thinking Atheist podcast has compiled some of the more modern-day…Continue

I've been into genealogy for a long time. It's fun, especially with internet help, but increasingly frustrating. You see, I've hit "brick walls". And being a Smith doesn't make research any easier.Wouldn't you think I could find the death date and…Continue

I'm not a news hound by any stretch, but I do like to stay informed about what's going on in the world. (I despise "local" news with all the reports of murders, robberies, fires, etc.)The national "evening" news shows really irritate me. I hate…Continue

LOL cake.  Reminds me of Alice In Wonderland.  Wonder if it tastes as good as it looks.  Probably really doesn't matter.

Patricia and Melinda, there ARE fat-free ice creams and frozen yogurts on the market, and most of them rate from "Acceptable" to "WAAA-HOOO!!!" Schwan's makes the best (smooooth!), IMO, and they deliver.  Dryer's makes low fat/sugar free ice cream in fabulous flavors, and Ben & Jerry's has been developing some good low-fat products for several years now.

I just wish somebody would make CRANBERRY!  Sherbet, sorbet, ice...I don't care.  I've emailed B&J's and the local ice cream masters (Baskin Robbins), and I haven't even received a polite (or rude) reply.

The late Jeff Smith put a great recipe for Cranberry Ice in The Frugal Gourmet Cooks American, but I lack an important ingredient...a Donvier machine.

(Cranberry swirled with tangerine or orange would be lovely, too.)

Drooooool

Patricia, do you have a bread recipe you are willing to share?

My son has trouble with pork and poultry. Causes bloating for him.

Ruth, such a playful cake; I bet the baker/decorator laughs a lot through the day, and makes everything a bit more fun.
sk8... Poor cat who does all the work. I used to feel that way; now I do what I want to do and let the rest go ... what will it matter 50 years from now. Except taxes, grocery shopping, a wee bit of laundry and washing a dish or two. Life gets better after 70 years.

Chris, rant in any language!  We'll understand!!! :)  That is so awful!  I am lucky that my husband's job has good insurance, but I'm terrified about it not lasting...  I shouldn't have to worry that I can't get my meds, or worry about my son not ever getting his own health ins. that pays for his insulin...  Sick.  Just sick.

Yes Melinda, they say that our healthcare system is too expensive - hah, they privatized it first, took out the juicy bits and the bills are for the ordinary people. More and more things are 'own risk' meaning that you have to pay everything yourself and the bills are rising. People have already stopped using medicins because of the cost; yesterday I heard of someone with a bleeding stomach ulcer - he had stopped using antacids. I can't rant in English but I feel like it!

I'll stop it now. Enjoy you good day!

Joan, thanks!  I have tried eliminating a lot of things over the years to no avail.  I do have a week of two a month where I feel GOOD!  It's then that I have hope and think I can do something, like get a job, etc. and then BAM! the symptoms return.  I can live with it, but I hate it.

I am sorry Felaine about the money being so tight.  That sucks!  And you have every right to complain, and your friends here will sympathize! I could not agree more with you about Universal Single-Payer Healthcare being the only way to go!!! OILigarchy~ ha ha that's great!

Ruth, I am going to tell them why I feel I can't be on a jury, and give them my Dr.'s number.  I thought of bringing in all my prescription bottles! lol.  That cake is too gorgeous to eat!  I'd hate to be the one to make the first cut in it!!  That's a piece of art! I do eat healthy things a lot, but the problem is when I don't feel well, the most soothing thing that makes me actually feel better is ice cream!  I think the heavy coldness in my stomach or something. You're right about the self-soothing!  I'm sorry you have pain!

Chris, is your country seriously trying to make their system more like the US?  NO ONE should use our healthcare system as a model!!!

I actually feel good today, so, I'm off to take advantage of that!  All of you are awesome!!  I love starting my day by looking on Hang with Friends! :)

AN was down for maintenance - most of my day but I'm glad you're back. What a horrible healthcare system have you got! And to think that they break down our healthcare system to make it more like the US system!
