Joan, if you want to take the Canadian Rail trip with me, we can save our pennies, and meet up in Seattle, and go on from there.  It may take years, but I have a feeling we'll both still be here on Planet Earth to do it.

My mom had cancer that started in her lungs and showed no symptoms till it was all over her body.  By the end of that year, she was cancer-free, and stayed that way for the rest of her life (age 79 - 87)...the chemo was pretty gross at first, but it wasn't as horrible as I've heard some people say it is, and she only went through that twice (10 days each time), with a drug (whose name I've forgotten) to control the nausea after the first day.  She also had something like 45 radiation treatments, too, and NO side-effects from them at all.

Everyone still acts as though any form of cancer is an automatic death sentence, and it isn't.

PS: Mom was diagnosed in 1984...medical science has advanced so much since then.  Trust your team, and I'll see you in Seattle one day.  Or, if you don't want to go all the way to Churchill, I have a friend in Tacoma I can visit, and we can work out some way to visit.

Oh NO, Joan! The big C! Sorry but that gallows humor was too much for me. Good luck. Take plenty of vitamin D, as well as following the Doctors suggestions. It can help return cells to a quiescent state. I second booklover, you are very dear to us.

Sk8eycat, those are the most dramatic aurora pictures I’ve seen. The rays are so distinct in some, as if you can see the searing radiation streaming down. They’re scary and gorgeous.

Patricia, I am so glad to learn you are still breathing and certainly have a sense of humor. Thanks for your sharing. I know I am not the only one, and one day cancer will be cleaned out. 

Napoleon, well, you did it again; sent me out of my seat! I'm not going to ask you how you do it ... but it does take a minute to get settled down. Your brain-cone startled me too. 

sk8eycat, your train plan sounds like so much fun; and so many different sights along the way. Indeed I hope you see northern lights. I lived at Wildwood Station, Kenai, Alaska for two years and they were glorious. 

booklover, your sweet encouragement makes my spirits sing. I love Steveisms. Proctomitrist! Perfect! This is no big deal, a small patch showed up since my last exam a year ago. We caught if very early, I expect to have no problem whatsoever. My family were a little discombobulated  but they have settled down nicely. 

Spud, yes, that joke has gotten me through some interesting medical situations. Laughter is the very best medicine. No pain, no discomfort, so far, and I expect a very good outcome. 

Ruth, you are on to something great: viral memes! I just couldn't get the hang of memes, even though I read and discussed them with others. That is my new project: viral memes.

Joan, I'm so sorry to hear that.  Your attitude is wonderful.  Of course you know that you are dear to us here on Hang with Friends, and please let us know if we can do anything like just listening, or finding entertaining things online for you to laugh at etc., as you are doing whatever you and your doctors decide.  Your attitude is so wonderful.  Your joke reminds me of my father-in-law, who uses words he makes up, although he thinks they are real words.  We almost get hysterical some of the time.  He once said he was going to the Proctomitrist, and I asked if he had his eyeball up his ass.  Once he said he wasn't a catholic or a protestant.  He was a pedestrian.  He was perfectly serious.  His name is Steve, and we call these "Steve-isms" lol. I MUST see the aurora before I die...I really want to take the train from Los Angeles to Seattle, ferry to vancouver, BC, train to Winnipeg, and from there to Churchill.  See the lights and the bears.
