Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.
Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.
Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.
This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.
A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.
Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Comment by booklover on March 18, 2013 at 4:22pm Joan, I'm so sorry to hear that. Your attitude is wonderful. Of course you know that you are dear to us here on Hang with Friends, and please let us know if we can do anything like just listening, or finding entertaining things online for you to laugh at etc., as you are doing whatever you and your doctors decide. Your attitude is so wonderful. Your joke reminds me of my father-in-law, who uses words he makes up, although he thinks they are real words. We almost get hysterical some of the time. He once said he was going to the Proctomitrist, and I asked if he had his eyeball up his ass. Once he said he wasn't a catholic or a protestant. He was a pedestrian. He was perfectly serious. His name is Steve, and we call these "Steve-isms" lol. Hugs to you~ Melinda

I'm going to try to remember the ophthorectumy joke the next time I have a biopsy. :)
Comment by Patricia on March 18, 2013 at 2:29pm Been there done that Joan, & I'm still breathin'! I had great fun with my medical people as well......made things easier to get through that's for sure!
Comment by Joan Denoo on March 18, 2013 at 2:20pm Well, I have had a good time, taking this journey through forces of nature; hope you enjoyed it as well. A week ago, my mammogram came back positive for cancer. I have been taking the steps advised by my wonderful team of doctors; they all have outstanding credentials, they know their fields, and they are fun. I told my doctor when he was taking the biopsy that he might as well do an ophthorectumy (sever the nerve going from my eyeball to my rectum so I wouldn't have such a shitty outlook on life) while he was at it, and the room filled with laughter. Can you think of a better way to get biopsy?
Comment by Ian Mason on March 18, 2013 at 2:09pm Agreed, Joan. We are here, we are now; enjoy the trip and try to do some good on the way.

Comment by Joan Denoo on March 18, 2013 at 1:36pm Looking toward space, seeing and learning about all the wonders of that dimension, I experience a sense of being connected. We exist kind of like wells into the universe, grounded on Earth by natural forces of gravity and electromagnetism, and impacted by Weak and Strong Forces of Nature. We need do nothing to cause all this to happen; nature does what it does and we get to participate.
Comment by Joan Denoo on March 18, 2013 at 1:30pm Although I don't feel the sting of cold and wind, the image winter creates is so beautiful I want to share it. This photo shows the Earth's contortions of these mountains, worn down by time and weather, and the glaciated-created Lake Ontario. Many geologic changes over vast amounts of time, and remnants of evolutionary forces that bring us to this day. This precious planet needs attention.
