Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.
Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.
Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.
This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.
A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.
Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Comment by The Flying Atheist on March 10, 2013 at 8:58pm Wow!!! I leave town and I'm seven pages behind upon my return. Finally caught up.
Felaine, I'm glad your tooth pain went away and that you're back to 'normal.' I'm very embarrassed to admit this, but I haven't been to a dentist in nine years. That's really bad, I know. I haven't had any problems, but I know I'm long overdue for a regular checkup, etc. I pay a very low insurance premium for dental care every year through work, so there's no excuse. Just me being a very bad and irresponsible person.
Joan, I enjoyed you reminiscing about days gone by. I still remember "telephone exchanges." My childhood home phone exchange was TU9 (Tuxedo 9) or today known as 889. You also mentioned Amos and Andy. They are a favorite of mine as well, as are many of the old radio shows. I listen almost daily to them. I sometimes feel as though I was born a few decades too late. You might enjoy the following links that I use all the time: Amos & Andy audio page 1, Amos & Andy audio page 2 and Old Time Radio archive.
Ian, I love the Satanic Gecko. Nature never fails to amaze and 'wow' me. I've always been fascinated with the walking stick insects.
Oh, and I too signed the DST petition. Changing clocks twice a year may have been necessary in the bygone farming era of pre-industrialization, but it's just not relative to today's modern society......kinda like religion.

Comment by sk8eycat on March 10, 2013 at 8:31pm I have a question for everybody/anybody: my friend that I cat-sit for v occasionally needs a hip replacement job, and has asked me to research what works best, what lasts longest, and everything else about hip prosthese. Where do I start? Has anyone had any experience with this problem?
What I've come up so far is the lawsuit settlement by Johnson & Johnson for their faulty metal-on-metal device. Metal-on-metal doesn't last long...and constantly sheds teeny-tiny fragments into the body. (But all the materials used in these devices does that.)
I've also sent an e-mail to a friend who has had to have the same hip operated on 3 times because of various screw-ups. I haven't told Sue about that.
Anyroad, any information at all would be greatly appreciated. I just need to know where to start...a lot of the links that come up on Google and other search engines are paid ads, and I'm trying to avoid those.
Comment by sk8eycat on March 10, 2013 at 8:14pm Oh, yes. Our "Pale Blue Dot" in space. Her biggest problem for the past 2,000 years or so is that the two most powerful organizations have convinced (without any evidence at all) billions and billions of people that there's a better home waiting for them...after they die. So they leave this one filled with trash.
Comment by Joan Denoo on March 10, 2013 at 6:16pm "Humanity; The most intelligent species on the planet, capable of anything, but is governed by its aggression and youth. A species fast in developing, but slow in maturing.
Once a species that cared about its home, its provider, let its ego dominate its decision. A period of ignorance and neglect has had profound effects across the world. Effect which can be reversed, if nature is given the time to repair the damage.
Remember … We only have one home.”

On Daylight Saving Time: I agree -- let's stop messing with the clocks and eliminate an annual cause of increased car accidents in the spring. (Energy savings are questionable, too, especially in the southern U.S. where increased A/C use more than offsets reduced evening lighting use.)
On a facetious note, I like the DST proposal someone mentioned on Car Talk some years ago:
Every afternoon at 2:00 pm, we'd move the clocks forward to 3:00 pm. We'd skip an entire useless hour at the office where nothing gets accomplished, except perhaps for meetings, but that's being redundant. And we'd get to enjoy an extra hour of daylight in the evening.
Every night/morning at 3:00 am, we'd move the clocks back to 2:00 am. With modern electronics that's easily automated. So we'd get an extra hour of sleep.
It's a win-win-win situation!

Comment by Lillie on March 10, 2013 at 2:27pm I hate DST. I have this internal clock that doesn't switch. I get up grumpy every morning until it changes back in November. And they keep extending the hours. Leave it one way or the other preferably the traditional way.
Comment by Joan Denoo on March 10, 2013 at 1:52pm sk8eycat, I signed the petition and fervently hope 1,000,000 sign on. Let the people decide.
Comment by Joan Denoo on March 10, 2013 at 1:50pm Steph, that cat looks like a menace to human and beast. What face to be greeted with each morning! I think I would go back to bed and pull the covers over my head. I would also invite that poor dog in to comfort me. The dog's words fit perfectly! Thanks for the laugh.
