Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

I agree with you whole-heartedly in your view of the world situation. I wonder what kind of society my daughter will live in when she's my age in 30 years time and I'm not sure it will be a better one.

When observed by outsiders, the experiment failed. It's hard to trick a trickster :-)

Of course, my parent's generation went from the Great Depression and didn't live long enough to see this recent decline in economics and the take over of politics by money people. Their generation observed the break-up of vast wealth and empire, and the growth of the middle class. They grew older knowing life was getting better for them and I had a brighter start in life and a promising future for me.
We live in different times now. We must scale back, there are not enough jobs for all the people needing paid labor, we have to unlink from consumerism and big banks, even as power lies with BIG. Tax rules and laws that do not provide the kinds of protections to small businesses of my parent's day make entrepreneurial effort very risky today. Protections for wage earners decline because of heavy taxes on their efforts while wealth can legally get away with not paying their share. Education for wealthy people is not at risk. Working class families find it very difficult if not impossible to fund education. Grants and loans become more difficult to find and cost more. With the growth of science and technology, formal training costs more than growing up on a farm and learning from former generations. Amazing things happen every day that require math and science education. The clever will find a way to be educated. What about those who are not clever? Will they be confined to low paying service industry jobs? Will they have opportunity to advance economically? It depends on their ability and willingness to work hard, think hard, and to be persistant. Even if they do all that, there are still not enough jobs for all those families that need jobs.
