Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.
Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.
Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.
This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.
A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.
Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Comment by Idaho Spud on July 20, 2012 at 7:14am Joan, that's funny ("Carnival Hooker"). I never did like the looks of makeup, but Tammy made me look away before I lost my dinner.
Comment by Loren Miller on July 20, 2012 at 7:23am So Jim Bakker is back at it, working his con yet again, eh? "The more things change..."
Comment by booklover on July 20, 2012 at 8:29am @ Joan, lol, I know, my 'kids' are 18 and 20 and are really neat people, and my daughter even cringes when she remembers how she was in middle-school (don't we all?!). I was really taken aback when this 17-year old basically came here and knows more about anything than anyone. He's not a bad kid, very polite, and even funny, but he will probably cringe when he's older remembering the way he was. Maybe he won't though! lol
As for the feedback, I'm not going to let one odd person upset me. I just don't have time for that anymore in my life. There are so many intelligent people I love to hear about and hear their stories on here. Thanks for saying I will laugh at the feedback too one day. You are one of the people that is SO intelligent and interesting. Loren too, Steph makes me smile she is SO nice to everyone, Idaho Spud, The Flying Atheist, I could go on and on.
Have a Great weekend!~ Melinda
Comment by booklover on July 20, 2012 at 8:32am Idaho Spud, did you ever wonder, did Tammy Faye Baker REALLY think she looked good in all that make-up? Did NO ONE ever tell her how horrendous it was? Remember all the skits like on SNL where they'd impersonate her crying and all the black mascara running down her face? ha ha.
Just like no one must have ever told W how to pronounce nuclear.:)
Comment by Joan Denoo on July 20, 2012 at 9:05am booklover, you wrote, "There are so many intelligent people I love to hear about and hear their stories on here ... Loren too, Steph makes me smile she is SO nice to everyone, Idaho Spud, The Flying Atheist, I could go on and on."
I agree wholeheartedly and the ones you mention are special to me as well. Life is far richer for me because of them.
Comment by booklover on July 20, 2012 at 9:48am Yes Joan, I have learned a LOT about Atheism, and about other peoples' live in-general here on AN. It's so interesting to hear how others were raised, esp. people who were raised in religious homes, since I wasn't. I love the intelligent opinions, and I esp. love to hear the arguements against religion, so that when I debate someone, I have different resources to use. Sometimes people are SO extremely smart I seriously can't even contribute to the conversation, so I just enjoy reading and learning.~ Melinda
Comment by The Flying Atheist on July 20, 2012 at 10:28am @Melinda and Joan. Humble thanks to both of you for the kind words. I also enjoy your company here on A/N. ***Big Group Hug***
Comment by Joan Denoo on July 20, 2012 at 10:44am booklover, don't sell yourself short. I would include you in the list of intelligent, fun, wise ones. Silence kills! So, comment often and as powerfully as you feel like mustering.
Several people called me "victim" and I declare just the opposite. I refuse to be silent to those who would dominate and oppress. If that makes me a victim in their eyes, they look in the wrong direction.
The good news, there are a cloud of witnesses who know and want truth-telling, not sweet, passive, acquiescent, helpless sounds.
Comment by booklover on July 20, 2012 at 10:44am Thanks The Flying Atheist! Yes, Big Group Hug! You are a really neat person. I aspire to be more like a lot of people on here. I do have a bit of a temper ;), and I don't like that about myself. I guess we are all always a work in progress? Some of you seem to have gotten it right already though!! ~ Melinda
Comment by booklover on July 20, 2012 at 10:50am Thank-you for those kind words Joan. I do think I am intelligent, etc., but I am seriously in awe of some of the people on this forum! Like I just said in a previous post, I have some work to do on myself, like not having a temper so much!
You are an inspiration, and I sincerely mean that.~ Melinda

There is a video of the Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film. The man isn't demon possessed, there are likely no 'real' demons. He's just delusional and doesn't want to accept personal responsiblity for his own behavior for his own dysfunctional life.

There is an ad that reads ' Do you support 'traditional' marriage? Vote Now"! .
No, I don't support 'traditional' marriage because there is no such thing. I support heterosexual and same-sex couples marry each other legally , yes. 'Traditional' marriage promoters largely do not believe that heterosexual women are co-equal to their husbands. Their only purpose in 'traditional' marriage is to sexually satisfy their husbands if they can and raise children and do all…

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.
I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).
THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…
