Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.
Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.
Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.
This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.
A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.
Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Comment by sk8eycat on July 28, 2012 at 2:24am The story said the couple had been attending that church fo some time, but were not official members. Still, I'm sure they put their money in the plate every Sunday....
I hope they at least find another church, but even better I would like them to think things through and join FFRF.
As for Chris' comment about "what woman would WANT to be in their parrty?" I have wondered for decades, ever since I realized how anti-female ALL the Abrahamic religions have been for millennia, about women who want to be rabbis, priests, ministers of any kind. If they want to help people, there are all kinds of other public service organizations, plus medicine, etc. that feed, house, clothe, find jobs, and educate the needy...without trying to "save" their non-existant souls.
I wish someone would poll women cleric about why they went into The World's Oldest Profession. (Shaman, Priests, etc., have been around a lot longer than prostitutes. Who do you think decided women's sexual freedom was "wrong"?)

Comment by Joan Denoo on July 28, 2012 at 8:01pm Things that prevent me from believing in a god, any god:
1. The imperative to submit, obey, follow teachings with which I do not agree.
2. Perception of some as more human than others.
3. A hierarchical system that places a god at the top to be obeyed: males, preference for a specific race (Jewish, Anglo-S or Muslim) and women and children perceived as chattel.
4. Claims about miracles that defy natural laws of physics and depend on faith and belief.
5. Defenses to back up their claims using untestable, unmeasurable, unverifiable rationale.
6. Justification by using circular thinking: god, yahweh, allah authored scripture; scripture describes god's, yahwey's, allah's imperitives.

i've got no problem with everyone saying "merry christmas" on christmas day. however, they've turned it into an entire holiday season where it lasts a month or more. in those situations it should be perfectly acceptable to say "happy holidays" or call it a…

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.
I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).
THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.
I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…
