Come on in, pull up a chair!
Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.
Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.
Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.
This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.
A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Watching this video I became conscious of being part of a far larger existence than my little corner of USA, Washington State, Spokane County, Spokane City. The notion of a power answering my desires remains ludicrous. To even imagine a power that created Earth and all its inhabitants 6,000 or 10,000 years ago remains simply silly.
I am conscious of maiming and killing people who disagree with our Executive and Legislative branches of government and the Judicial does not respond to laws based on compassion and justice. I direct my thoughts to living things from the sea, from the soils, and from the air.
"A feeling of awe for the planet, a profound understanding of the interconnection of all life, and a renewed sense of responsibility for taking care of the environment."

I watch NOVA a lot & learn a lot as well.
We also have several very good scientific shows here in Canada which I try never to miss. Brian Cox is a host that I remember at the moment, & he explains things very clearly.

It's an awesome overview of earth from space and how, with the use of our satellite technology, we can monitor the different ecosystems on our planet and how they all relate to each other. We live in an incredibly complex and fragile environment. And I'm amazed at really how smart our species has become to be able to develop such advanced technology.
Melinda, I'm stealing the Secular Creed. It's great. I was just having a phone conversation the other day with a new friend and I was explaining to him what exactly is a secular humanist. The Secular Creed really boils it down to the basics. I wish I had it available a few days ago.
When explaining secular humanism to someone who doesn't know anything about it does anyone else, like me, feel as though they sound like some hippie trying to explain the advancement of some utopian world society? I do. Secular Humanism is a philosophy; a way to live, and I think most people don't view the way in which they live their lives as 'a philosophy.' Am I making sense? lol
And yes, chocolate overrules licorice. But both together.......? Ahhhhhhh.
