Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.
Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.
Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.
This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.
A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

This photo essay shows the remarkable benefits of replacing a secular government with a religious one. The fate of Egypt is quite an endorsement for the superior morality of religious rule.I was a bit surprised by the extent to which the temporary…Continue

Violence in the home is a horrible thing. Here in Denmark there's been some attention recently to the problem of women who beat. It seems to be a more common occurence among the younger generation. That said, the "traditional" form is still dominant.
The tazered cat is great :D Thanks.

"In her video, Ensler said she wants to make stopping violence against women the center of the global agenda, and she hopes everyone takes a pledge on February 14, regarding what they are going to personally do to end this violence."
Yes Joan, and I'm nauseated everytime people make a show of their being ´loving parents of súch a nice family´- brrrr!

Comment by booklover on February 7, 2013 at 4:44pm I always had a loving mom and 2 sets of grandparents (one that lived in our city and I spent lots of wonderful time with), they were actually my real 'fathers' parents. I still am angry about growing up with an asshole of a stepdad, but I wouldn't hurt my mom's feelings by telling her that now. She was just doing the best she could at the time. I had a pretty good childhood, but I know my 'dad' abandoning us to party his life away affected me in a terrible way. I clung to my high school boyfriend for security, and we got married too young, but it turned out well. We've been married 25 years, and he is a really good husband and father. I wouldn't change a thing, because then I wouldn't have the kids I have now. My mom says that too about marrying my 'father.' So, life goes on... :)
Comment by Patricia on February 7, 2013 at 4:21pm Oh yeah, I got told by neighborhood kids I couldn't play in their groups if I ALWAYS had to have that little kid with me all the time......not their fault, good ol' mummy should have been good ol' mummy!

Comment by Idaho Spud on February 7, 2013 at 3:52pm Joan, I think I can partially understand where you and others are coming from. Even though I've had a relatively easy life, I still don't find humor in violence, or mistreating others.
