Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Yes, Molly Ivins was a very irreverent Texas Journalist who "told it like it is" with very colorful speech.  I really do miss her and know she would be having great fun with our political controversies today.

I agree.

While I agree that what Obama does obliterates whatever nice speech he gives (without following through), I did find the pro gay and feminist parts of his speech encouraging. I didn't think I'd live to see a president include Stonewall and Seneca Falls as part of our revered national heritage. I give him credit for saying those things in that setting. Doesn't mean I like his drone war, support of fossil fuels or erosion of rights.

From the news: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/jan/22/elderly-hurry-up-die-ja...

I have known for decades (whenever the conservatives start griping about Social Security and Medicare) that many people in our own (USA) government feel the same way, but they're just too cowardly to come right out and say it.

I think one governor (Colorado) did say it was our duty to die at 65...back in the 1980s.  GOP, naturally.

Joseph, The Door Into Summer was published in 1957 (Serialized in F&SF in 1956) Even though the "futuristic" technology is terribly dated (cold sleep, robotic servants in 2000CE), I think it's charming. If you can't find it in a bookstore, or the library, I highly recommend searching for a used copy at eBay's Half.com.  I have found many out of print treasures there...CHEAP!

PS: I don't think you insulted any dogs in a previous post. I often use a Sharpie pen to cross out the G-word on the back of any currency that comes into my hands, and substitue "DOG" (or "REASON") in its place. I wonder if anybody I pass the money along to ever notices...

Great cat pictures!  My favorite Heinlein book is Stranger in a Strange Land.  I've never heard of The Door Into Summer.  I am currently reading A Dark Matter by Peter Straub He and Stephen King have collaborated on at least one book!
