Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

I detect a hint of sarcasm in your tone, James.

Steph: Those other countries only think they are succeeding. They are really failing, and they just don't know it yet.

Consider: Health care for all? Why would any God-fearing gun-loving Christian want that?

Spanking illegal (like in Finland)? How do you work off your stress if you can't whale on your kid now and again?

Jail the bankers? Aren't they the job creators for short-selling market speculators?

Gun restrictions? How can they possibly keep their small arms manufactures afloat, and parliamentarians rolling in graft? They might actually have to tax the people to pay legislators!

They don't know the first thing about running the world's largest prison system or managing one of the worst health care systems in the First World.

It's a comfort to hear you talk, Sk8eycat! Here it's 11 AM, so I'm doing chores and reading the forum in between. Have a good weekend, all of you!

Ruth, re:Simple things: YES!

Ever since I had that 4-night insomnia attack last week, I've been craving "comfort food."  So a few days ago I made some baked custard (with Splenda)...it' so easy that I don't know why I don't make it more often.  I bake it in the same (stainless) bowl that I mix it in,,,in a water bath, of course.  Next time I think I'm going to bake it longer at 300 deg, without the Bain Marie, and see how it comes out.

A couple of days later I made chicken vegetable soup with a lot of leftover Schwan's chicken and veg that I had in the freezer. I cheated by using Homestyle Broth concentrate....but it was GOOD!

Today I made cranberry sauce (with Splenda again)...I bought about 6 bags of berries when they were on sale during the holidays, and they keep forever when you freeze them.  So I used one bag. When it's done, and cooled, I put a heaping tbsp of cran sauce on plain or vanilla yogurt...SO good!  I don't understand why nobody makes cranberry sorbet or yogurt.

All of those things are so simple to make, and they are comforting....both to make and to eat. I love playing in the kitchen, but so many recipes seem complicated, and use half the equipment in the cupboards.

I'm feeling satisfied and relaxed, so I wish you all a good night, and an easy 3-day weekend.

Felaine

PS Patricia, I'm e-mailing that group of  pictures to about 20 people...including a few old f*rts who have developed Tea Party leanings. I hope a few of them will start thinking again.

I've been signing "We the People" petitionsto get the gov't to convict the Wall St. criminals who got us into this mess for years...it's not working. I don''t understand why Congress, et al can't see what's wrong in this country.  I guess they believe that if they "god bless America"  and pray often enough that their imaginary friend will make everything all right.  Hah!

Nobody can run a country on wishful thinking and bullsh*t.

Patricia those examples of how America does things is so true. Why don't we look at the other countries who are successful in their endeavors? We are doing things backwards. I agree with all those statements.

Ruth I just love your secret to happiness picture. I agree that you should enjoy the simple things.
