Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.
Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.
Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.
This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.
A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.
Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Comment by sk8eycat on December 13, 2012 at 5:41pm Spud, I think my personal preference is Felaine..."feline" wth an "a" in the middle. There are times when I think I'd really like to be a cat, even though their lives are so much shorter than our are.
Flying None (tee-hee!), a discussion/conversation about nicknames would be fun! I've told you most of mine already; I don't think I want to talk about the one my best friend in elementary school gave me. For some reason we went through a "baby-talk" phase in 2nd or 3rd grade, and I ended up stuck with that damned name through high school! (People wrote it in my yearbooks! Gah!)
I also get a giggle out of all three of my initials: FEH. Spelled "feh," it's a Yiddishism for "ugh!" or "ick!"
Comment by Idaho Spud on December 13, 2012 at 4:38pm Ice witch, I don't dislike any of your names. I'm just trying to find one that I can remember and remember how to spell. lol.
Comment by booklover on December 13, 2012 at 4:18pm Carl, my mom calls me "Dear Child" when she sends me cards, etc. Not in a serious way, we don't remember how it got started. Most of our family doesn't call each other by our real names. My son will answer to anything I yell down the stairs to him. lol. Mindy is the official nickname of Melinda, which everyone in "real life" calls me.
Comment by sk8eycat on December 13, 2012 at 4:08pm Ian: Lion 1 - xian 0. Too bad there weren't more lions.
There is a certain type of person who needs to feel persecuted, whether they really are, or not. If they're not being persecuted, they'll invent their own....and broadcast it.
When FFRF reminds people that putting any religious symbols and/or praying to their imaginary friend on publicly-owned property is unconstitutional, they immediately start wailing that we are trying to outlaw their particular fantasies altogether. I think they enjoy it; it makes them feel important.
They scare me... willful ignorance scares me.
Comment by The Flying Atheist on December 13, 2012 at 4:07pm I think this would be a fun topic to discuss......what nicknames have you had during the course of your lifetime? My best friend from high school still calls me 'Mag' which is short for Maggot. Ahhhh...only the best of friends could get away with that. My two sisters endearingly call me 'The Creep.'
Comment by sk8eycat on December 13, 2012 at 3:57pm Dear Spud, you don't like "Felaine"? When I first thought it up, about 12 years ago, I wondered WTF took me so long; I've been a cat fan all my life.
When I was still skating, I used "La Bruja del Hielo;" I picked that one up when I scared the cojones off a porter on the company train trip to Mexico City. He thought I really was a witch. (Had my very long hair down over my face, cackling over a bowl of dry ice and water...we'd been partying for 2 days and nights, and it was more than a little drunk out.)
I've had a lot of crazy nicknames, and have enjoyed them all.
Comment by dr kellie on December 13, 2012 at 2:49pm Flying atheist, I didn't know you were gay. How awesome.
During my foray into rollerderby, my name was Sharon Needles.
Comment by Idaho Spud on December 13, 2012 at 2:45pm Felaine, I'm still thinking about what to call you.

There is a video of the Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film. The man isn't demon possessed, there are likely no 'real' demons. He's just delusional and doesn't want to accept personal responsiblity for his own behavior for his own dysfunctional life.

There is an ad that reads ' Do you support 'traditional' marriage? Vote Now"! .
No, I don't support 'traditional' marriage because there is no such thing. I support heterosexual and same-sex couples marry each other legally , yes. 'Traditional' marriage promoters largely do not believe that heterosexual women are co-equal to their husbands. Their only purpose in 'traditional' marriage is to sexually satisfy their husbands if they can and raise children and do all…

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.
I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).
THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…
