Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.
Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.
Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.
This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.
A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.
Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Comment by Joan Denoo on December 11, 2012 at 12:40am Ian, I am very sorry to learn of your mother's condition and know this is a hard time for you. Thankfully, you have worked with old people and know her mind is deteriorating and your job is to remain stable and compassionate with her. Do you have a good support system? Take really good care of yourself so that you can provide the support she will need.
You're a lovely bunch of people, thanks for all your kind words! (Sniffing softly - am I catching a cold?) Almost 7 AM here, and off to work.
Comment by Tony Carroll on December 10, 2012 at 9:02pm Hey everyone. Just getting home from work. Boy, did the extremely malodorous fecal matter impact heavily upon the rotating blades of the air circulating machine today. One of the busiest we've ever had. Just trying to catch up now, over 187 messages in my in box. Well, I'll talk with you guys later. Have a good one.

"Plans to launch a complementary Gay Winter Games, slated for February 1986 in Denver, Colorado collapsed, due to a lack of sufficient funding and logistical problems. There have been no subsequent attempts to launch a Gay Winter Games since, although Whistler, British Columbia, Canada hosts an annual gay winter sports festival."
You're right about having a shortage of non-gay male skaters! lol
Comment by sk8eycat on December 10, 2012 at 8:09pm Are there WINTER Gay Games? LOL I think if the "official" Winter Olympics were limited to str8 athletes, they'd have very few male skaters! O, la!
Comment by The Flying Atheist on December 10, 2012 at 7:52pm Melinda, the Gay Games are held every four years in cities around the world, just like the International World Olympics. The first games were held in San Francisco in 1982. It was originally called The Gay Olympics, but a few weeks before the opening ceremony, a lawsuit was filed on behalf of the International Olympic Committee claiming that the word 'Olympic' could not be used. Since then they've been known as The Gay Games. They were held here in Chicago in 2006. I had the great fortune to volunteer and to meet and assist LGBT athletes from all over the world. When I was in Amsterdam in 1998, several people from my Friday night LGBT bowling league were competing. It was fun to be halfway around the world and to see fellow league-mates competing.
