Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.
Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.
Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.
This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.
A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.
Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

So, I guess most of you here know that my dad died back in January of complications of Parkinson's disease. There have been times that have been rough since then, but I'd think it's all part of the process, so to speak.Today was Remembrance Sunday…Continue

Comment by The Flying Atheist on December 8, 2012 at 4:49pm Back home today from working and catching up on five pages of back-posts. Unfortunately I managed to catch a cold while gone. Ugh!! I hope it doesn't last very long.
Sk8eycat, are you in the photo of the Nutcracker skaters?
I've never been on facebook or myspace. It all seems too much like an invasion of my privacy. Funny, though. I feel comfortable on this site sharing my views and a certain degree of personal info. Go figure. Everyone on Atheist/Nexus seems (for the most part) to be more mature, rational and sincere, especially all of you here in Hang With Friends.

I made my own cookbook - mostly clippings - of meals that match my diet and are cheap, easy and healthy. It works very well.

Comment by booklover on December 8, 2012 at 9:31am Hope everyone is having a good weekend. Ours will be a quiet one. Our daughter went to visit a friend at the friends University. Our son has to work. We will just read, watch some shows, etc. I went shopping and I can't believe the price of groceries, etc. now! I am such a bargain-shopper, and I had NO coupons this time, couldn't find many good deals at all! And the price of beef was sky-high! I'm going to search the internet for some low-cost meal ideas. It's hard to find dishes that my whole family likes.
Comment by Joan Denoo on December 8, 2012 at 12:05am Napoleon, I remember that day all too well. Accuser, judge, jury, and executioner. Sound familiar? Are we seeing that in this country and in these conflict? Absolutely.

Oh, WTF. Here's another good seasonal greeting:
A new version of one of my faves.

Happy Nut-Cracking Holidays to ALL!

Comment by booklover on December 7, 2012 at 5:30pm I just love your perspective Joan. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and stories. They always make me feel good. :)
Ruth, we have missed you too! What you are working on is SO cool. I would have no idea how to even start something like that. I am amazed that I figured-out how to get an Atheist Nexus app. on my iPhone, and that was with help from Steph! lol.
My daughter left just now to go visit a friend for the weekend 2 1/2 hours away. I hate that she's driving in the dark. I made her take my car which is over a decade younger than her car, and much safer. I will relax when she texts me that she is there safe and sound! :)
I hope everyone has a good weekend! I just got back from visiting with 2 liberal, Atheist friends, so I feel 'up.' :)~ Melinda
