Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Well, it's that time of year again.  Time to gird our loins, put on our battle armor and join the (dah-dah DAAAAAH!) WAR AGAINST CHRISTMAS!!! [groan!] Yeah, most of us have heard that crap before, probably too many times, in fact, how atheists are…Continue

Seth Andrews - The Copycats: How Christianity Steals The Best Ideas

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Loren Miller on Wednesday. 11 Replies

Many of us have observed or learned how christianity shamelessly borrows from other sources to bolster its position and show off its supposed wonderfulness.  Well, Seth Andrews of The Thinking Atheist podcast has compiled some of the more modern-day…Continue

I've been into genealogy for a long time. It's fun, especially with internet help, but increasingly frustrating. You see, I've hit "brick walls". And being a Smith doesn't make research any easier.Wouldn't you think I could find the death date and…Continue

I'm not a news hound by any stretch, but I do like to stay informed about what's going on in the world. (I despise "local" news with all the reports of murders, robberies, fires, etc.)The national "evening" news shows really irritate me. I hate…Continue

Good Morning Everyone!  I am sitting in front of our Winter Solstice Tree :) with a cup of coffee. :)

Joan, I don't mind if you post anything I say, etc. on FB.  I have an FB page too, but just with my daughter, sister, a very few relatives and even fewer friends.  The ones I have left on there know I'm a Liberal and an Atheist, so whoever doesn't like it there is free to unfriend me.  I lost a friend a month or so ago from me posting Atheist things, but, good riddance then!  Sounds cold, but I can't care anymore.

Have a happy Friday all and a great weekend!~ Melinda

Steph, love the Grouch Potato!

Gee, I haven't had the problems you describe on Facebook. If anything comes through I don't want to waste time on, I just Block it and it doesn't return. I certainly would not want unrequested information coming in. Actually, I spend relatively little time on Facebook and a lot more time here.

Most of my family communicate on Facebook, some of us for the first time in years. Most of them have a deep and abiding faith and belief in god, and all that implies. When they send me religious messages, which they used to do frequently, I just send them a piece about my finding no evidence of god or a reason to have faith or belief. If they don't get a gentle hint, I get more confrontational.

Their great fear for me is that I will burn in hell, and my great fear for them is that they will miss out on life. I have noticed those who have faith also have a lot of stress, anxiety, depression and "bad" days. I don't seem to have problems in those areas.

My great concern for everyone is that we are on a tipping point for so many things; climate change, loss of care for children, elderly, and being involved in constant wars since WWII. I hope to see our culture turn around by recognizing humans are not the top of a pyramid but a part of an interlinking net; that humans have the capacity to damage or destroy life as we know it on Earth.

We are a part of something so grand, so full of wonder, so magnificent, and we had no part in creating it, even as we have opportunity to enjoy this glorious sphere.

It's the same here Patricia: I hate facebook - but I' ve got a facebook account. I never use it, I just keep it to see things and for one contact. Any mail they send me I throw away within a second.

I love that "manger" scene Tony. Very funny.

I've missed you too. I hope you are getting some rest tonight.

Hope everyone is doing OK.

Joan you are fine. No problems with you posting anything. I just didn't join because I think it's too much of a privacy invasion.

Finally getting a weekend off. Ah, beautiful rest. Will be able to catch up. I have missed visiting with you guys.

Joan, no worries as far as I'm concerned. If you find anything I say worth reposting, go for it. I also only have family and a few friends on Facebook, only to keep up. We are rather scattered across the U.S.

Here is a creche I can really get behind! lol! :)

Oh Oh! Maybe I am creating problems for Atheist Nexus members. I have family and friends who keep up to date on Facebook and I often repost to them, giving attribution from whom I get the information. First, is giving your name for attribution causing problems?

Second, Would you rather I not repost your items on Facebook?

Patricia I have the same feelings about Fakebook - I refuse to join it too.

Just too much invasion of privacy there. No one needs to know all that information about you. So - I am with you Patricia. No Fakebook for me.

Patricia I really like that Atheists and morals picture.
I will take it ( along with all the other posted pics here) - my collection is growing.
Ian that is a cute dog. I recognize the song.
