Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.
Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.
Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Comment by Joan Denoo on December 5, 2012 at 3:30pm Melinda, Oh! Yes indeed! enjoy the Winter Solstice and your daughter! Time slips by so quickly and being with a loving daughter is about the best treat I can think of. Right up there with being with loving sons and all their offspring. They do the cooking, now, and hosting the parties and I can simply wallow in the joy of it all.
I feel extremely fortunate to have been able to shake off the old mantle of myths and fables that laid claim on my thoughts and actions for so many years, and I am free to think about things once forbidden. I can see myself as part of this fantastic universe and not destined to some terrible burning eternal fire or a place that some claimed to be paradise and I could only see boredom.
My purpose in life is to be genuinely me, not some fabricated wretch that could never live up to another's expectations. My sense of direction comes from being awake and aware of events taking place around me. Some things I can change, some I can't, and some just feel so important to me I surge ahead as if I do make a difference.
Having my origin being the exploding stars that produces all the elements that make you and me, and that we share our origins with everything on Earth gives me a great big kick in the behind. I really am! I am what I am, and so are you. Isn't that great news!?
The fact that I will return to the elements from which I emerged makes me just want to dance and sing and inspires me to breath each breath with a sense of wonder and meaning.
Just as all these wonderful cats that appear on these pages, and the amazing birds that exist on the Earth means I am part of all of that and I am so damned grateful to have this life, aches and pains and all that. It is a price well worth paying to be conscious of it all.
And my dear friend, you contribute to my joy in so many ways. Melinda, shine your light and sing your song, and dance your dance, and be all that you are. You and I can be partners in the dance of life and all who share these words create a web of life worth living.
Comment by booklover on December 5, 2012 at 2:55pm Felaine! Awesome way to get your name! I always liked that it reminded me of feline! :)
Joan, I LOVE your outlook on life! How funny the shorter lady offered to help you get something off the shelf. Interesting how people see themselves. I don't mind getting older I guess. I just hope I don't get sicker. I have 'conditions' I guess, not illnesses. Just chronic things to live with. I am just grateful for my family , pets, and friends (ESPECIALLY you friends here in this group. Very comforting!) I love that you have decided to let others do the work when you feel like napping! Naps are great! I need to move on to a different phase in life now that my kids are adults. Still deciding what. I'm grateful I don't have to be in a rush to decide. Just going to enjoy the Winter Solstice, having my daughter home until next semester, snuggling with my pets, and eating the delicious food available this time of the year! Hugs to everyone~ Melinda
Comment by sk8eycat on December 5, 2012 at 2:28pm Ian, can you go by rail to the Chunnel, and get to England that way? Or would that require too many train changes, visas and other gov't red tape?
Joan, yes, Sk8eycat and Felaine are the same split personality. My first name is the same as my mother's (Frances), so I've been called by my middle name (Elaine) all my life to avoid confusion in the house...I never bothered to ask my parents why they did that to me, and it's way too late to do it now. It's caused all kinds of problems with tax returns Social Security, Medicare, contracts, etc., etc.
When I started working for The Pet Press (at home, via e-mail), Lori wanted to put my name on the masthead. I was on Disability at the time, and I didn't want anyone to know I was doing any work at all, so I came up with a serendipitous nom de plume that was close enough to "feline" to make me happy.
An' dat's de trooooffff!

Comment by Joan Denoo on December 5, 2012 at 2:20pm Patricia, great news! A Yule Log ready to warm and brighten Winter Solstice?
Ian, I can hear your frustration and need to get some reasonable service at a reasonable price. I do hope you get to your Mum and can sort things out. My thought go with you.
Melinda, I love these "perspective" photos. The cat really does look drunk! Your aging comment rings a great big bell for me, with even a drum roll and blast of a bugle: "I am getting old!" My youngest granddaughter was going through some rough time appropriate for a young woman of her age and I was going through some rough time appropriate for my age ... but there isn't as much fun to look forward to going on the down-hill slide.
So, I guess the best plan, at least for me, is to be a "participant observer" and observe my aching joins, tired back, weariness, disinterest in doing anything productive, and just soak up those delicious naps, and happily accept offers to open doors or carry heavy packages. One little old lady offered to help me get a jar off the top shelf of a grocery store and I asked her how tall she was ... she was an inch shorter than I am. Oh dear! when little short old ladies offer to help me, I must look pretty old.
Well, the fun things are visiting with you guys each day, doing a bit of reading and writing, finding pleasure in my local grocery store and hardware store, and gleefully trek off to all those doctors' appointments. I even had the great excitement of having my yearly "serious" talk with my financial advisor this morning. Yippee!!
I planned to go testify against coal trains coming through Spokane last night and I was just too tired. I could have given such a strong speech that the plan would have been scuttled at once. Oh! Well! Someone else has to do the work now. I am too busy napping.
Comment by booklover on December 5, 2012 at 2:13pm Ian, sorry about your cancelled flight and having to pay way more for another one! SO frustrating when there's nothing you can do about it!

Comment by booklover on December 5, 2012 at 7:41am Carl, isn't that sad that people don't know what occupied means? Wow.
Felaine, have that surgery! I know, easier said than done, but if it is going to keep you from a terrible way of living life... We are all here rooting for you! I love your doormat. I've seen one that says "Go Away" and one that says "Warning: Dog can't hold his licker" lol.
Thanks Joan. I feel like I turned 45 and fell apart! It's like the doctors have to play a game called "What's wrong with Melinda now?" I was always such a healthy and athletic young person. Ain't life grand? ;) Wow, 3 babies at once! Love the baby bird photo that goes with your story! :) And, no, those aren't my pets. Just another photo I found on the internet.
Have a good middle-of-the-week everyone! :)

ContinueNathan Young That's true Jonathan Brown. At one time I was a member of the MRA board when it was more open towards hearing an orthodox Mormon views on things. Since that time the MRA is now under the stewardship of a new 'religion' the 'Society for Humanistic Mormonism' which is merely another apostate religion. It will fail just like all other apostate forms of Mormonism have failed including might I add the Mormon "Transhumanist" Association and their kind, and all the front…

Hello fellow atheists! I have joined this site in an attempt to find other rational individuals, such as myself, and to promote a current charity drive that I am trying to get going for the Oklahoma tornado victims. I have managed to get many groups from around my area, including the Beyond Belief Foundation to back me on this endeavor.
I am located in Newnan, Ga and have my own atheist group entitled "Coweta County Atheists". I am currently being backed by Spaulding Co.…

There is a video of the Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film. The man isn't demon possessed, there are likely no 'real' demons. He's just delusional and doesn't want to accept personal responsiblity for his own behavior for his own dysfunctional life.
