Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.
Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.
Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.
This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.
A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.
Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Comment by Joan Denoo on December 4, 2012 at 12:34am Ian, I am sorry to learn of your Mom's illness. How are you doing? Seeing what is happening and trying to do the right thing for her is not an easy thing.
Comment by Joan Denoo on December 4, 2012 at 12:28am Not good news, I am sorry to report. "the journal Nature Climate Change: carbon dioxide emissions will rise by 2.6 percent this year, fueled by major increases in China and India. This follows a record year in 2011, when countries pumped 3.1 percent more global warming pollution into the atmosphere — making it very likely that the world will blow past the 2 degree C warming threshold that scientists and international negotiators agree is needed to avoid catastrophic consequences.
"Some even call global warming of 2 degrees C, which is on the lowest end of projections, a “prescription for disaster.”
Comment by Joan Denoo on December 4, 2012 at 12:19am It has been almost a year since Ruth posted this piece:
"RELIGION MEMEPLEXES ARE A PARASITIC INFECTION!
"Quoting scripture to criticize it, satirizing Jesus, they're alternative ways to pass the poo. It's still infected poo. The only defense is "Call it infected poo and don't pick it up." Don't give it a place in your brain. Don't make it come out of your mouth, or type it out with your keyboard. It's a mind virus. VIRUS!
I've been trying to use this image since then, but continue to fall into the "poo" pile! So, as a refresher, the image of infected poo gets reinstalled. I like the image as a "kick the habit stimulus".

Comment by Loren Miller on December 3, 2012 at 8:17pm Hey, Felaine!
Sorry to hear about your hand. May I heartily suggest Dragon Naturally Speaking as a verbal interface for your machine. It's not too expensive and I have it on good authority that it works pretty well. Certainly worth a try, at minimum.
BEST WISHES!
Comment by sk8eycat on December 3, 2012 at 6:53pm Dear friends, just to let you know that I have NOT left A/N, nor have I forgotten you all, I'm just having great difficulty typing and using a mouse. My right hand has become partially paralyzed, and the earliest appointment I could get with my orthopedist is on Dec. 18.
It's my own fault; I knew I had stenosis of the cervical spine a long time ago, and was supposed to have surgery to correct it in 2010, but I panicked and cancelled.
Very frustrating, especially when I'm trying to get important (or fun) stuff done. I'm just reading a lot, and still able to scoop the litter box. (Damn! I wanted to foist that job off onto my sister!)
I'll try to check in now and then to see how everyone is doing.
I wish you well.
Felaine
