Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.
Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.
Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.
This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.
A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.
Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

So, I guess most of you here know that my dad died back in January of complications of Parkinson's disease. There have been times that have been rough since then, but I'd think it's all part of the process, so to speak.Today was Remembrance Sunday…Continue

Comment by Ian Mason on November 27, 2012 at 8:39pm Ah, the pleasure of waking up early to meet all of you :-)
Melinda: atypical because nothing fits neatly into one category. Plus, diagnoses can also be in or out of fashion among the experts, something that sometimes is related to the "efforts" of the drug companies.
It's been a couple of years since I had anything to do with women and several years since i drank but I still want "Oh didn't he ramble" at my funeral.
Comment by Tony Carroll on November 27, 2012 at 6:51pm Kalliope, that is my favorite Monty Python song. I have it on my MP3, and listen whenever I feel a little down. I plan on a natural burial, you know, just a shroud and put me directly in the hole. I have let my son and family know I want this played. Will probably piss some off, but I think it is a wonderful sendoff, even though I won't be there, or anywhere, for that matter. But will let them have a smile instead of a cry.

Comment by Joan Denoo on November 27, 2012 at 3:12pm Melinda, thanks for your kind words and assurances that I hadn't intruded. There are so many tools one can use that we should have learned in our families and education, but I didn't learn many of them until I responded the best way I could to pain and disappointment. I agree, this is a lovely group of people, wise and funny and bold.
Love you and each one.
Comment by Ruth Anthony-Gardner on November 27, 2012 at 12:41pm Thanks for all of your wonderful sharing and support of one another. Yes, why do cats love boxes? Perhaps because there are so few things in their human environments that they can control. Boxes tend to be light and cat sized, as well as resembling a nest.
No fair, GrinningCat. Now I have that Grand Old Cat tune as an earworm.
I was missing yesterday because I'm working on another pullquote/slideshow. But this time I'm more ambitious and will buy Vegas Video to add sound and allow people to control it. It's a learning curve to figure out how to properly credit the pictures. I collected a bunch without getting all of the information I need, and now have to hunt for their sources or replace them.
From The Meaning of Life, an oldie, but I still enjoy it.
Comment by Joan Denoo on November 27, 2012 at 11:29am Chris, that film is a KEEPER! Just a great lively tune, and lyrics worthy of memorizing. Let's have a sing-along. You are brilliant!
Comment by booklover on November 27, 2012 at 9:02am Spud, that big cat looks really comfortable up there!
Good ideas Chris!
Wonderful pictures, esp. the kingfisher and the minnow - you can almost see what the minnow thought...
I have a way to cure myself of depressing ideas, perhaps some of you can use it: first think of the worst time in your life, then say to yourself: ´If I survived thát, today must be easy enough.´
And if that doesn't help, you can sing
