Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.
Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Comment by Ian Mason on November 18, 2012 at 11:40am I'm a recent convert to opera. Have seen 4, all by Mozart. Figaro is the best. Planning on seeing "Tosca" next year in Feb.
Saw a documentary on the early Xtians a few years ago. They were divided into 2 groups, one in Jerusalem led by James/Jakov "Jesus' brother" and one led by Paul, which had the policy "don't upset the Romans". The Jewish uprising of 67 - 69 CE lead to the crushing of James's faction, leaving a clear field for the Pauline doctrine.

Comment by booklover on November 18, 2012 at 7:55am Thanks for the trivia Ian, lol. Ruth, I love the GIF! That's really interesting Carl! I'm sure most xtians don't even know their history. Just read that "good" (ha!) book, and blindly follow the other sheeple. Love the 2 horns up. :)
I like your rock, paper, scissors cartoon Tony. :)
Steph, shower-cat is hilarious! My back is better, my son is @ work, daughter is sleeping, and hubby went for a last drive in his Corvette before he has to put it in storage for the winter. It's not even 8 a.m. yet! Time for more coffee.
Enjoy your Sunday everybody~ Melinda

Comment by The Flying Atheist on November 18, 2012 at 12:37am Ian, that must have been marvelous. Mozart's music is fantastic, especially that opera.
Today I watched the full four-hour PBS Frontline documentary 'From Jesus to Christ: The First Christians.' (1998) It was very interesting. It didn't address the issue of whether Jesus existed or not, but focused on how the beginnings of the christian church started as a sub-group within the Jewish community, which was itself a sub-group within the Roman empire. Very interesting information about how the current political and social climate influenced each of the gospel writers during the different times they were written, which greatly explains many of the differences, omissions, embellishes and contradictions of each gospel. (Inspired word of god, my ass!!)
This documentary finishes by just barely delving into the beginning of the fourth century CE when the Roman emperor Constantine converted to Christianity. It's a sweeping overview of how the early christian church grew and came to power. A fascinating story that was very engaging. If you like history and the history of religion, I recommend viewing it.
I give it two horns up.
Comment by Ian Mason on November 17, 2012 at 11:41pm Doing fine thanks, Steph. Was at the opera yesterday and saw Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro". A pleasure from begining to end.
How about you?
