Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

I think you should be proud of kicking the cigarette habit Chris!  I've read that it's harder to kick than any other drug, so I'm glad I was raised in a non-smoking family and never touched any tobacco product.

! Good news for you, Booklover, I'm glad! I hate those mammograms.

You're lucky never to have started cigarettes, Joan! I grew up among chainsmokers - they probably thought that the temple of the lord must be tarred inside and outside - but I kicked the habit at last and haven't smoked for over twenty years, I'm still proud about that.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Thanks Ian.  Actually they just called me to let me know they're normal.  I wasn't worried, but nice to get confirmation.  Have a great weekend.

Hope the mammogram went well, Melinda.

Sagan's experience with MJ fits almost exactly with my first experience with tobacco! I experienced synaesthesia -I could SEE music - and felt that, for the first time I really understood harmony deep down in my soul. Probably why I got hooked for the next 39 years.

As far as mj goes, I loved the first few times and wanted to stay stoned all the time but then it turned nasty on me and caused severe panic attacks. That was probably for the best, otherwise I would have become a chronic stoner.

Weather here typical autumnal: mild, wet, windy and changes twice an hour.

Good weekend all.

Tony, that IS a beautiful picture!  I'm glad you put it up!

Steph, I love the sarcastic cat. :)

Wow Joan, snow already?  It's in the 50's here in Northern Illinois, and it's supposed to be 60 and sunny here tomorrow.  My husband is going to take his Corvette for one more spin tomorrow before he puts it away for the winter.

It is now official, my winter hibernation starts today; we had 2+ inches of snow last night and the garden is absolutely gorgeous!
I have never had a cigarette in my mouth, nor have I tried MJ. My only experience with it was while in graduate school, every night students got high and acted so silly I just didn't want to participate. I still don't like second hand smoke, whether tobacco or MJ. That old victorian upbringing holds a tight hand, but at least I can disregard its chatter when I want to.

I really am looking forward to winter, even if it predicted to be a "cold/hot" one. Last time we had such a winter I lost a couple dozen roses to the freeze/thaw patterns over and over. Everything was well protected, but it could not stand up to the fluctuations. So, perhaps more will die this winter. It's OK because it will open up room for more vegetables and fruits.

Hope everyone is warm, well fed, doing something you like to do with someone you like to be with, and content.

It's true, I had the same experience with cannabis; it's really wonderful to smoke a joint and look at art. But I've also seen a lot of people who used whatever they could find as an escape from the problems they should have faced, and there are more reasons to be careful with cannabis. Tobacco is a much nastier addiction, by the way.

I take it elated-cat is being sarcastic.  Hehe :)

Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film video

Posted by Debra Stevenson on May 21, 2013 at 2:37pm 0 Comments

There is a video of the Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film.  The man isn't demon possessed, there are likely no 'real' demons.  He's just delusional and doesn't want to accept personal responsiblity for his own behavior for his own dysfunctional life.

Do you support 'traditional' marriage, vot now ad

Posted by Debra Stevenson on May 21, 2013 at 2:28pm 2 Comments

There is an ad that reads ' Do you support 'traditional' marriage? Vote Now"!  .

No, I don't support 'traditional' marriage because there is no such thing. I support heterosexual and same-sex couples marry each other legally , yes.  'Traditional' marriage promoters largely do not believe that heterosexual women are co-equal to their husbands.  Their only purpose in 'traditional' marriage is to sexually satisfy their husbands if they can and raise children and do all…

My first funeral as an atheist

Posted by Two Cult Survivor on May 21, 2013 at 11:30am 0 Comments

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.

I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).

THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…
