Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.
Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.
Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.
This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.
A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.
Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Comment by booklover on October 14, 2012 at 8:42am Thanks for the kind and encouraging words Steph! I don't regret at all being with my kids all those years, I feel privledged (sp?), but now it will be hard to find something else to do. Oh well, luckily I don't have to hurry!
Tony, your black cat beats my black cats! lol. Beautiful!
Comment by Paula T. on October 14, 2012 at 12:08am Chris, I have a problem with using the Chrome browser. I can post a reply (as I am now), but cannot reply to another member's post within threads. I am able to reply to those while using IE, but I really hate IE. I hope someone else who has more tech knowledge may be able to offer another answer.
Good morning! My pc gets stuck every time I visit AN - some reli influence perhaps? It's almost impossible to put up a message; are there more people with the same problem here? And how can I fix it?

Comment by booklover on October 13, 2012 at 8:29pm I'm in the same position Paula. I have 3 classes to get an AA degree, but then I'd have to go on, and we already have 2 kids in college. I don't know if I have it in me to go back. Here they have cut librarians, and teachers, etc. essentially careers I'd want. I can't do math to save my life, so none of the careers that pay are something I would even attempt to take the classes for. I think I may just want a 'job' and learn whatever I want to like I've always done on my own. I do wish I'd at least have finished my AA degree though just for closure. We will see!!!
I hope you get the job!!!!!
Comment by Paula T. on October 13, 2012 at 8:05pm Thanks, booklover! I was at home while my sons were young and any work I did was around their school and sports schedules.
I sort of fell into the decision to become a librarian and am still looking for a full time position - hopefully one I had a phone interview for which is in the same academic library I work in now *fingers crossed* I hate the thought of paying back student loans for the rest of my life, but I knew I didn't want to file papers/answers phones or ask "paper or plastic" for the rest of my life! Hopefully, you can find something you love to do and can make some $$!!
