booklover, I'm glad my kids are all grown up and can carry on an intelligent conversation. But Oh! Dear! I remember those sophomoric years with humor now, but it has taken a while to be able to laugh. There is life after teenage children. 

As for feedback, you will be able to laugh at that, too.

Eeeeek!  I had to click on that link, and you're right, I couldn't believe it, and I couldn't stop watching.  The new wife must be using Tammy Faye's leftover makeup.  But that SET!  I was half expecting them to discuss bass fishing...or do something like "Blue Collar Comedy."

It's a circus and a train wreck.  A circus train wreck.

LOL...made me think of Miss Velma and the Universal World Church in Los Angeles; the "mighty golden altar" looked like a steam calliope covered with glitter and cotton candy. (I think they bought out a prop house that was going out of business.) Here's a xmas special:

The Flying Atheist, Oh My Goodness! He is out of prison? He is back on TV? How gullible can people be?! And selling a solar generator? ... he must have grown a heart while in prison, concerned about people staying cool in a drought. Well, at least there will be sunlight, unless the dust bowl blanks out the light. His "new heart" really hasn't lost its lust for money. Does his new wife look like a carnival hooker?

So....this past Monday night, I'm lying in bed in a hotel room in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  I'm flipping through the TV channels and what do I encounter? The Jim Bakker Show.  The Jim Bakker Show  Yes, that Jim Bakker, infamous sidekick of Tammy Faye from the PTL Club.  That slimy, little f**ker is out of prison and televangelizing with his new wife from Branson, Missouri to a new flock of brainless, gullible saps.  I couldn't stop watching.  It was like witnessing a combination three-ring circus and train wreck.  And......he's selling a $1,700 solar generator "for the Revelation Days ahead."  (According to Wikipedia he still owes the IRS about $6 million.)  I guess I can't blame a man for trying to make a living, but the thing that gets me is that people are willing to support and give money to a well-known scam artist and convicted criminal.  He should be working the counter at The Waffle House or washing dishes at Denny's to pay his bills.

Yes, that is funny, esp. as Yaweh, JC and Allah seem like gods that have been cobbled together from bits of earlier, polytheistic traditions.

@Flying Atheist: According to Wikipedia, Fatty Falwell founded his first church when he was 22, so the only time he might have been selling cars was part-time when he was in college.

Guess we'd have to call him a used-god salesman.

I saw him once, about 30 years ago, on the Phil donohue Show, and he was RUDE to the other guests and some members of the studio audience. I think buybull colleges teach their students  to interrupt and "talk over" anyone who doesn't agree with them 100%.  *faugh*

Honestly, book lover, I wouldn't respond to you again as you seem like a judgmental person. But you don't get to tell me who I can and can't respond to. Sheesh, I'm starting to think this kid is lucky that you won't talk to him again. I fail to see the difference between saying you see no value in talking to him again versus you won't talk to him again. I don't think I have read anything into your comments or misinterpreted them, so I guess we'll have to agree to disagree about what you've conveyed.

I'm sorry I had the nerve to speak up and think it wasn't very nice to trash a kid by calling him an egotistical know-it-all when most 17 yos probably also think they have all the answers.

I really thought this site would be a welcoming spot where diversity of opinion and free thinking would be valued. But I'm finding it's a closed clique where newbies aren't welcome and people tune out anyone who doesn't fall lock-step in line with their thinking.

Booklover....the thing was....my son had told him up front that everyone had to pitch in with the chores etc., so it's not as if it was a surprise. We hadn't even gotten out of the truck yet when we got to the lake & he was asking 'when do we eat?' My husband said no food until we set camp, so this guy promptly hid in the outhouse for an hour or so while we pitched the tents. I just knew then that things weren't going to go well. At least my son learned something without us having to say a word.

I agree there, I wouldn't let my kids go to stay with someone unknown to us while under age, but that's us.
