Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.
Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.
Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.
This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.
A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.
Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

So, I guess most of you here know that my dad died back in January of complications of Parkinson's disease. There have been times that have been rough since then, but I'd think it's all part of the process, so to speak.Today was Remembrance Sunday…Continue

Two consecutive governors in prison. One Republican, one Democrat. Funny thing: I voted for George Ryan, the republican, because he was pro-abortion, pro-gay, anti-gun and very liberal on social issues. The Democratic nominee, Glenn Poshard, was anti-choice, anti-gay, anti-gay marriage, and pro-NRA and guns. He wasn't very popular in liberal Chicago.
Comment by booklover on July 15, 2012 at 12:31pm @ The Flying Atheist, Damn! I'm in Illinois, and I didn't hear about that! Well, you know how smart our governors are, what with a few in prison and stuff... lol. Also love being like the 2nd worst state economically after California. Land of Lincoln!~ Melinda

Comment by The Flying Atheist on July 15, 2012 at 12:14pm @Steph S. I'm not in Texas but I felt like I was here in Illinois on Friday when I read the following news story: Illinois State Officials Say It's Time to Pray for Rain Ugggghhhh!! I guess I was naive and wasn't expecting that from our Democratic governor in our Blue state.

Comment by sk8eycat on July 13, 2012 at 11:49pm *sigh* I never had a nickname when I was in school. What can you do with "Elaine"? I've been called by my middle name since the day I was born.
I picked up "La Bruja del Hielo" when I was in Holiday...I scared the mierda out of the porter in our car on the way to Mexico City...he thought I was a witch, but that's too damn long.
Then, about 10 years ago, when I was working part time at the Cat Hotel, the manager saw my legal name (my first name starts with "F") on my paycheck or something, and yelled, "Felaine! Meeee-yowwww!" I yelled back at her, "Claw-diaaaaa!" (Claudia Shell played Victoria in "Cats" on Broadway for nine solid years....eeeek!)
That's the kind of thing that happens when you hang around with cats all your life. The only time I didn't have at least one was when I was on the road.
